PITTSBURG, Kan. (March 31, 2019) - In a low scoring game, the Mules scored just enough and
Mason Green did the rest on the hill to secure a win. The Mules hung on for a 3-2 win over Pittsburg State in game two of the series. The win the Mules 20th this season, putting them at 20-9 and 12-5 in the MIAA.
Play-by-Play
• Green was in trouble early but worked out of jams in the first and second to keep the game scoreless.
Mason Janvrin helped keep the Gorillas off the board, cutting down a runner at the plate trying to score on a single in the second.
• UCM broke through for two in the third inning.
Donovan Ditto led off with a walk and stole second. He scored the first run on
Cole Taylor's opposite-field double to right center.
• Taylor then made it a 2-0 game when he stole third and scampered home as the throw from the catcher was mishandled.
• Green was cruising until the fifth. A leadoff double came around to score on an error, cutting the lead to 2-1.
• Two batters later, the Gorillas looked to tie the came on a single, but another outfield assist at the plate, this time from
Erik Webb, ended the inning with the Mules up 2-1.
• Janvrin led off the sixth inning with a double. After a bunt moved him over, Webb again made it a two-run ball game, 3-1, with a sacrifice fly.
• That insurance run proved vital. After the Gorillas went down in order in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, they made some noise in the ninth.
• An error and a single put the tying runs on base with one out. A fly out brought in the Gorilla's second run. Another single put the tying run 90 feet away, but
Jonathan Sprinkle got a strikeout to end the game, 3-2.
Mules Stat Leaders

Mason Green was again dominant striking out seven in seven innings of work. He allowed just an unearned run on five hits.
•
Luke Mercer and
Jonathan Sprinkle combined for two innings out of the bullpen. Mercer lasted 1.1 innings and allowed an unearned run on one hit. Sprinkle got the final two outs giving up a hit and striking out a batter.

Cole Taylor was 1-3 with a double, run scored and an RBI.
•
Erik Webb singled and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
•
Mason Janvrin and
Donovan Ditto each scored a run.
For the Gorillas
• Alex Achtermann got the start and threw eight innings allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
• Greyson Pinkett was 3-4 with a double and a run scored.
• Clint Allen, Quin Reasoner and Chaz Burgess were each 1-4.
