Green, Ditto Help Mules Take Rubber Game

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (March 23, 2019) - Central Missouri Mules Baseball (18-9, 10-5 MIAA) took the series with Washburn 2-1 thanks to their 9-1 win Saturday afternoon over the Ichabods. The Mules got great pitching from Mason Green and Jonathan Sprinkle and seven runs from the sixth inning on to put away the Ichabods and win their 10th conference game of the season. 

Play-by-Play
• Things started for the Mules in the second inning. A two-out error was the start of four straight Mules reaching base. Donovan Ditto was the beneficiary of the error and scored two batter's later on Cole Taylor's single to right.
Mason Janvrin then worked a full count and a got a pitch he could drive up the middle to score Zak Whalin who was running on the pitch for a 2-0 lead.
• That was all that Mason Green needed on this day. He was cruising, including striking out five straight in the fourth and fifth innings.
• Washburn got their only run in the sixth inning. A leadoff double came around to score on an RBI single, but a double-play ended the inning without any further damage. 
• UCM answered right away in the bottom of the inning. Micah Evans and Ditto led off the inning with back-to-back singles. A ground out moved the runners up and Taylor did the rest with a two-RBI single, putting UCM up 4-1.
• The Mules scored in each of their final three turns at bat to put the game away. In the seventh, the Mules put runners on without getting a hit and Ditto made it a 6-1 game, coming through with a two-RBI single to left.
• Janvrin led off the eighth inning with a stand up triple. He scored one batter later on Alex Madera's single to left. With two outs, it was Ditto again driving in two, this time going back up the middle to score Madera and Harrison Schnurbusch with the Mules eighth and ninth runs.
Jonathan Sprinkle got the final six outs in relief and the Mules came away with a 9-1 win.

Mules Stat Leaders
Mason Green delivered another superb start lasting seven innings and giving up just one run on three hits with a walk and eight strikeouts.
Jonathan Sprinkle tossed two perfect innings in relief, striking out four.
Donovan Ditto was 3-5 with two runs and four RBI.
Cole Taylor was 2-4 with three runs batted in.
Mason Janvrin finished 2-4 with a triple, run and an RBI.
Erik Webb was 1-4 with two stolen bases.
Harrison Schnurbusch collected two hits and scored twice.

For the Ichabods
• Brock Gilliam got the start and allowed four runs (two earned) on nine hits in 5.1 innings of work. He struck out three and walked two.
• Xavier De Leon was 1-4 with a run scored.
• Brady Hoover had a hit and an RBI.

News and Notes
• Streaks continue for Erik Webb and Mason Janvrin. Webb ripped a single in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to 26 games. He is closing in on the Mules all-time hitting streak record which is 32 set in 1998.
Mason Janvrin upped his reached base streak to 27 straight games. 
• The bottom of the order was on fire for UCM going 7-14 with seven runs batted in. 
Donovan Ditto's four RBI match a career high. 
Mason Green went over 50 career strikeouts. 
• The Mules scored 22 of their 25 runs in the series after the seventh inning.
• Six Mules collected at least four hits in the series.

• The Mules will be on the road for two straight weeks starting next weekend with a three-game set in Pittsburg, Kan. to take on the Gorillas March 29-31.
