Jennies Season Comes to Close in Regional Semifinals

HAYS, Kan. (March 16, 2019) - A back-and-forth game with a wild finish saw Southwestern Oklahoma State knock out No. 23 Jennies Basketball of the NCAA Central Region Tournament, 75-72. The teams traded three-pointers in the final 15 seconds with the Bulldogs hitting the game-winner with 0.5 seconds left to play. The loss ends the Jennies season at 25-7.

How it Happened
• The score was tied four times with four lead changes and neither team held more than a nine-point lead.
• Central Missouri shot 46% from the field and 60% from three going 9-15 from deep. The Bulldogs shot 37% from the field and made eight three-pointers. The Jennies three-point percentage was their best this season.
• The free throw line made a big difference as the Bulldogs were 23-26 and the Jennies just 9-15.
• UCM won the rebounding edge, 34-32, but it was the Bulldogs with a 14-12 advantage in second-chance points.
• Central Missouri turned the ball over 18 times, 13 in the first half. The Bulldogs turned those into 23 points while UCM scored just 16 points on 12 SWOSU turnovers. 
• The Jennies started out 4-4 from the field with Megan Skaggs knocking in a pair of three pointers and the Jennies lead 10-2.
• UCM held the lead for the rest of the quarter. A three from Peyton Taylor made it 15-8 with less than five minutes to go.
• The Bulldogs cut it down to six, 19-13, after one and that was the start of their run. They opened the second on a 7-0 spurt and scored 12 of the first 14. 
• SWOSU built their largest lead, 25-21, before the Jennies scored eight straight. Sydney Crockett and Paige Redmond each made three-pointers.
• The teams traded a few baskets down the stretch and UCM went into the break up by three, 35-32.
• Starting the third, the Bulldogs continued where they left off in the first half and a 9-0 run gave the Bulldogs their largest lead, 46-40 with just over five minutes left in the period.
• Central Missouri responded with their own 9-0 run. Kim Crown's three-point play gave the Jennies the lead back, 49-48 and Sydney Crockett capped the stretch with two at the line. The Jennies ended the quarter ahead by two, 53-51.
• Central Missouri held the lead for 8:30 of the fourth quarter. A jumper from Crockett and a layup from Crockett pushed the lead to eight, 66-58, with 6:02 to play.
• A layup from Skaggs with 4:04 left and the Jennies still held a seven-point lead, 69-62 with 4:04 left.
• That's when the Bulldogs made their run scoring eight straight and taking a 70-69 lead with 1:30 left.
• A bench technical on UCM gave the Bulldogs four points in 13 seconds, including the go-ahead layup. 
• The Jennies missed a go-ahead layup in the final minute and were forced to foul. The Bulldogs hit both with 19 seconds left for a three-point lead, 72-69.
• After a timeout to advance the ball, Morgan Fleming inbounded to a wide open Megan Skaggs who buried the game-tying three with 14 seconds left. 
• Playing for overtime, the Jennies did a good job not letting the Bulldogs get a good look at a game-winner, but a three from Taber Beer with 0.5 seconds ended the season in heartbreaking fashion.

It Was Over When...
• With 0.5 seconds, the Bulldogs three-point game winner broke a 72-all tie to send Southwestern Oklahoma into the finals.

Jennies Stat Leaders
• Morgan Fleming scored a team-best 18 points on 8-16 shooting with seven rebounds.
• Sydney Crockett chipped in 15 points, going 5-8 and 3-5 from three. 
• Megan Skaggs added 13 points with six boards.
• Paige Redmond collected eight points, and dished out a game-high seven rebounds.
• Peyton Taylor scored nine points going 4-8 from the floor.
• Kim Crown came off the bench and scored six points with four rebounds. 

For the Bulldogs
• Hailey Tucker scored a game-high 27 points. She was 7-14 and 10-10 at the free throw line.
• Hayden Priddy added 16 points.
• Bethany Franks had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
• Taber Beer scored eight points, five in the final 90 seconds.

News and Notes
• Central Missouri falls to 8-2 in NCAA games in the last three years and 28-21 all-time.
• Paige Redmond finishes her career with 125 games played, tied for the second most in team history. She's fourth all-time in scoring with 1,730 points and her 15.9 points per game is 10th all-time. She made 215 three-pointers which is third in team history and her 436 assists are sixth most. She has the second-best free throw percentage at 85%, making 351 of 413.
• Sydney Crockett is also in the UCM top-10 in games played with 123 which is tied for fifth. She scored 795 career points and her 153 three pointers are seventh most in team history. 
• Megan Skaggs ended the season shooting 57.1% from the floor and 46.2% from three. Both of those are in the all-time top-10 for a single season. Her 46.2% is a new school record and her single-season FG% is eighth all-time. 
• Emilie Jobst went over 50 career rebounds and set a single-game career-high with five.
