Mules End Time in Houston with Loss to Huskies

HOUSTON, Texas (Feb. 3, 2019) - Central Missouri Mules Baseball ended their trip to Minute Maid Park with a 7-3 loss to St. Cloud State Sunday afternoon. The Mules got behind early and couldn't recover, as they went 1-2 overall in Houston.

How it Happened
• Central Missouri was stymied by Huskies started Sheldon Miks. The Mules didn't get on the board until the fifth when they already trailed 6-0.
• UCM collected nine hits, three fewer than SCSU and committed three errors in the field.
• The Mules got down early as the Huskies put up a three-spot in the opening inning. Mules starter Brady Gavin, making his UCM debut, faced just four batters without recording an out.
• The Huskies first run scored on a bases-loaded balk. They added two more in the inning on a two-run single from Caeden Harris.
• Coby Seiz pitched 2.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, but the Huskies added to their lead in the fourth. With two outs, Jordan Joseph ripped a ground-rule double to right, just barely keeping it fair. Two more runs scored for SCSU an inning later on an RBI single to center. The second run scored when catcher Zak Whalin was called for obstruction of the plate.
• Central Missouri got on the board with two in the bottom of the fifth. Alex Madera singled to start the inning and Kole Ficken drove him in with a double into the left field corner. Ficken then scored himself on Whalin's RBI groundout.
• A two-out bases-loaded hit by pitch caused the seventh Huskie run to score in the sixth.
• The Mules had their best chance to get back into it in the eighth inning when they loaded the bases with one out. They were only able to score one on Madera's infield single. They left the bases loaded with the tying run at the plate, down 7-3.
