50 Points! Skaggs Sets MIAA Record in Jennies Win

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Dec. 17, 2019) - A typical Tuesday evening non-conference game turned out to be anything but. Megan Skaggs emphatically stamped her name into the UCM and MIAA records scoring 50 points to lead the Jennies to an 85-64 win.

How it Happened
• The Jennies shot 50% from the floor for the game and held the Crusaders to 38%.
• UCM hit nine three-pointers and were 10-12 at the line while Evangel knocked in seven trey's and were just 11-21 from the stripe.
• The Jennies had a big advantage in the rebounding department, collecting 47 to the Crusaders 29. The Jennies put in 13 second-chance points thanks in part to 12 offensive boards.
• The Jens blocked seven shots and forced 13 turnovers.
• Skaggs was money from the get-go. While it was a slow start for both teams, Skaggs didn't miss in the first quarter going 4-4 from the field with a three and 4-4 at the line to score 13 points. Leading by four, 11-7, Skaggs scored the final nine points in the first for the Jennies with a three, two layups and a pair of free throws. After one quarter, the Jennies led 20-14.
• The Crusaders started the second on a 6-0 to tie things at 20, but UCM answered with 10 straight of their own. Who else but Megan Skaggs started the run with a layup. She and Morgan Fleming each had five points and UCM led 30-20 with 6:31 left in the half.
• Evangel didn't quit though and held the Jennies to just two points the rest of the half while scoring 12 to come all the way back to tie things at 34 at the break.
• Skaggs scored the first four points in the third as UCM reclaimed the lead and never gave it up. A layup from Skaggs put the Jennies up by 10, 53-43 with 1:47 to play in the third and the lead was in double-figures the rest of the way. Four straight points in the final minute from Ryann Stearns gave the Jennies their largest lead, 59-46 after three periods.
• The fourth quarter is when the threes started falling. Five of them to be exact. Skaggs put up 17 in the period going 5-5 from behind the arc. With the game in hand, the only question left was how many would Skaggs score. In a two minute span, Skaggs buried three straight threes to get to 50 before being subbed out to a standing ovation.

It Was Over When...
• Skaggs put the exclamation point on the game early in the fourth quarter. The Crusaders showed they could score quickly with their 12-2 run in the second quarter. Leading by 11, Skaggs with a layup and her first three-pointer of the period put the Jennies up 67-51 and the Megan Skaggs show was just getting warmed up.

Jennies Stat Leaders
• It was the Megan Skaggs show. She scored 50 points going 18-20 from the floor and 8-9 from three. She fell a rebound shy of a double-double, pulling down nine and also dished out three assists and blocked two shots.
• Morgan Fleming was also in double-figures for UCM scoring 11 with six assists.
• Nija Collier added seven points and nine rebounds.
• Kim Crown scored five with five rebounds.

• Lexie Vaught was 3-3 from three and scored 17 points.

News and Notes
