Jennies Host Washburn First Round of MIAA Tournament

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Nov. 7, 2019) - Top-seeded Central Missouri is set to begin play in the MIAA Tournament, hosting the No. 8 seed Washburn in a quarterfinal match.

Opponent: 
Washburn Ichabods (7-9-1, 3-7-1 MIAA)

When:
Friday, Nov. 8 - 6 p.m.

Where:
South Recreation Complex - Jennies Field - Warrensburg, Mo. 

The Week Ahead:
• The Jennies were crowned the 2019 MIAA Champions and become the No. 1 seed in the MIAA Tournament. The regular season title in the program's 11th , all achieved under the director of current UCM Head Coach, Lewis Theobald
• The Ichabods finished the season with 10 points and won a head-to-head tiebreaker against Rogers State for the final spot in the championship field.
• There is a $5 entry fee for the game. Student entry is free. 
• Nine Jennies earned All-MIAA honors for their performances this season. Senior Allysa Gann was named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year and sophomore Lindsey Johnson was named the MIAA Goalkeeper of the year. Makayla Toth, Haley Freeman and Skylar Drum joined Gann and Johnson as first-team selections while Kassie Newsom and Nayeli Gallo were honored as second-team selections. Cassie Forcellini received All-MIAA honorable mention honors.  
• The Jennies moved up one spot in last week's United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll.After spending three consecutive weeks ranked fifth, the 13-1-1 Jennies ranked fourth in the nation. This week's poll comes out Tuesday around noon, just a couple hours before game time. UCM has the only ranked MIAA team in the past week's poll.
• Central Missouri is ranked at the top of the NCAA Central Region Rankings. The Jennies are one of four MIAA members regionally ranked. Northeastern State, Emporia State and Central Oklahoma are ranked fifth, sixth and eighth. 

Series History:
UCM leads 25-5-1
The Jennies have won the last 14 consecutive matches against the Ichabods. The last time WU defeated UCM was a 1-0 Ichabod victory in 2009. Head Coach Lewis Theobald has only lost to WU twice in his time with the Jennnies. Washburn and UCM met previously this seaosn, resulting in a 1-0 Jennies victory.

Scouting the Competition:
• Last season the Ichabods finished with overall record of 7-10-2 and 3-6-2 in conference play. The program finished eighth in the MIAA standings and returned 20 lettermen including four seniors, five juniors and 11 sophomores. Washburn was picked ninth in the MIAA Preseason Poll.
• Washburn completed league play with a record of 3-7-1 and totaled 10 points. Rogers Stats also totaled 10 league points but the Ichabods 1-0 victory over the Hillcats in Week 6 was enough to earn the No. 8 seed in the MIAA Tournament.
• The Ichabods have scored a total of 21 goals off 203 shots this season. Josie Rimmer leads the Washburn with five goals while Olivia Grasso is responsible for four. Tara Lynch leads the offensive attack with 50 shots, 29 of which fell on goal. Lynch also leads the Ichabods with six assists. 
• Ichabod keeper Reagan Wells have the firth-best save percentage in the MIAA at .848. Wells also ranks third in the league with 6.59 saves per game.  
• Tara Lynch and Josie Rimmer were named All-MIAA third-team selections. Reagon Wells earned All-MIAA honorable mention honors. 
• Davy Phillips is in his third season as the Washburn Soccer head coach. In three seasons, Phillips has compiled a record of 17-19-3, mentored five All-American selections, seven all-region honorees, 22 Heart of America all-conference picks, two defensive players of the year and one freshman of the year leading Baker to a NAIA Sweet 16 appearance and a NAIA National Semifinal and two top 13 final national poll rankings. 

Leading the Jennies:
•  Toth continues to lead the Jennies offense for the 10th consecutive week. The first-team All-MIAA selection led the league with 40 points. Her 16 goals was the second-most in the MIAA while her eight assists tied for second.
• Newsom leads the Jens in assist and ranked second in the MIAA with nine on the season. 
• With six goals on the season, Ruffalo tied for 10th in the league in goals scored. The freshman is behind Toth and Newsom for most points and goals on the team. 
• MIAA Goalkeeper of the year and UCM's two, first-team defensive players Gann and Drum have collected seven shutouts this season, four of which were against MIAA competitors. In MIAA only matches, Johnson had a .704 goals-against average and a save percentage of .849.
