DES MOINES, Iowa (Nov. 16, 2019) - Central Missouri Mules Wrestling opened the 2019-20 season today with nine wrestlers competing in the Grand View Open.
Dominique Hampton was the Mules top finisher on the day. The redshirt junior finished 4-2 at the open to earn a fifth place finish in the 184 pound bracket. After a first-round bye, Hampton lost to Iowa's Abe Assad by a 16-0 technical fall. Hampton won three straight to make his way back into the consolations semifinals where he suffered a 22-6 loss to Grand View's Ben Lee. Hampton won his battle for fifth place due to a medical forfiet.
Also placing in the open was
Conner Dalton with a sixth place finish at 141 pounds. Dalton also received a first round bye, then lost a 6-2 decision to Life's Marcus Abreu. In the consolation bracket, Dalton pinned Saint Mary's Jared Prough in 4:28, then recorded two major decision wins to find himself in the consolation semifinals. The sophomore transfer ended the day with two losses to finished 3-3 at the open.
In the 133 pound bracket,
John Feeney finished 1-2.
Emmett Kuntz and
Dakota Thevel represented the Mules in the 149 pound bracket. Kuntz also went 1-2 on the day while Thevel finished 1-1.
Austin Morgan finished the day 1-2 in the 157 pound bracket while
Zion Vasquez went 0-2 in the 165 pound bracket.
Competing in the freshman/sophomore bracket were Mule newcomers Dakari Rivers and
Jack Goin. Rivers went 1-2 while Goin finished 2-2 on the day.
Central Missouri had four falls in the open, led by Goin with two. The Mules also totaled six major decision and technical falls victories.
Mules wrestling returns to competition Thursday, Nov. 21 in a dual with Mizzou. The dual is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. in Colombia, Mo.
