JOPLIN, Mo. (Nov. 1, 2019) - The fourth-ranked Central Missouri Jennies are named the 2019 MIAA Champions after defeating Missouri Southern Friday night on the road. This marks the 11th MIAA regular-season championship in program history.
How it Happened:
• The Lions were the first to score in the 27th minute as Sarah Tatum found the back of the Jennies net.
• The remaining minutes of the first half remained scoreless. The Jennies out shot MSSU in the first 45 minutes 15-6.

Kassie Newsom tied the match in the 58th minute off an assist from
Allysa Gann.
• In the final 10 minutes,
Makayla Toth dribbled past the Lions defense and scored the Jens game-winning goal, unassisted.
• UCM out shot the Lions 24-14.
Leading the Lions:
• Bailey Belcher lead the Lions attack with four shots, one landing on goal.
• Tatum's goal was her second of the season.
• MSSU's keeper Luz Galindo recorded 12 saves in the goal for the Lions.
For the Jennies:
• Newsom's goal was her seventh of the season. Newsom is now ranks second for the Jenneis and fifth in the MIAA with 22 points on the season. Her seven goals also ties for sixth in the league.
• UCM's offensive leader Toth has now scored in eight of the Jens 16 games this season. Toth leads the league with 37 points. Her 15 goals ranks second while her seven assists rank fifth.
• Gann's assist to Newsom tonight was the senior defender's first assist this season and in her career.
• Newsom lead the Jens attack with six shots, five of which were on goal. Toth finished with five shots while
Haley Freeman recorded four.

Lindsey Johnson recorded seven saves protecting the Jens goal.
News & Notes:
• The Jennies are the only team in the MIAA without a league loss.
• With a record of 8-0-1, UCM clinches the regular-season title with two games still remaining. This is the 11th regular-season MIAA championship in Jennies Soccer history.
• UCM's winning percentage of .900 ranks 10th in Division II.
• Toth is tied for eighth in the nation with five game-winning goals. Her 15 total goals on the season ranks 14th.
• This is the Jens 23rd victory against MSSU as they increase their lead in the all-time series to 23-8-3.
