WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Oct. 3, 2019) - Central Missouri Soccer is back on the road week five for two MIAA match-ups. The No.7 Jennies are set to face Northeastern State on Friday night and Rogers State on Sunday afternoon

The Week Ahead:
• As the highest ranked team in the MIAA, The Jennies enter the weekend seventh in the nation with a 7-1 record, and a 1-0 mark in conference play. UCM has won five consecutive matches with their last loss coming on Sept. 13 against No.4 Minnesota State.
• UCM has now gone back-to-back weeks undefeated with two more wins last week over fellow MIAA competitors, Missouri Western and Northwest. UCM defeated the Griffons 1-0 last Friday, then shutout the Bearcats 4-0 last Sunday in the Jens first MIAA match of the year.
• Jennies keeper
Lindsey Johnson was named this week's MIAA Goalie of the Week. Johnson recorded back-to-back shutouts and saved all five shots on goal that she faced last week in the Jennies two victories. The honor is Johnson's first of the season and the second of her career.
• NSU holds a 5-2-1 record while Rogers is 3-4-1. Both the RiverHawks and the Hillcats suffered losses during MIAA's opening week last week. NSU suffered a 3-1 loss to the league leaders, Central Oklahoma. Rogers lost a close 1-0 battle to Newman, who the RiverHawks beat 3-2 last Friday.
Series History:
Northeastern State: UCM leads 11-2-1
The Jennies have won nine of the last 10 meetings against the RiverHawks. In their total 14 matches, UCM has outscored Northeastern 35-6. The last time NSU defeated the Jennies was a 1-0 RiverHawks victory on Jennies Field, which was also the last time UCM was beaten on their home field.
Rogers State: First Meeting 0-0-0
Sunday's match against Rogers State will be the first meeting between the Hillcats and the Jennies.
Scouting the Competition:
The RiverHawks
• Last season the RiverHawks posted a 10-7-2 overall record and went 4-5-2 in the MIAA. NSU was selected to finish seventh in the MIAA preseason poll.
• With the addition of eight newcomers, the RiverHawks return six seniors, including senior Emily Seiler who earned United Soccer Coaches All-Region honors last season. NSU also returns MIAA third-team selection and 2017 MIAA Freshman of the Year, Paulina Chavez and MIAA honorable mention selection Leslie Munoz.
• Friday's match is the RiverHawks fourth-straight road game. NSU split last week with a 3-2 win over Newman and a 1-3 loss against the league leaders, Central Oklahoma. UCO is the culprit of both NSU's losses so far this season, as the Bronchos defeated the RiverHawks 2-1 in week three. NSU also faced Rogers State in week three in match that ended in an 0-0 draw.
• The RiverHawks rank second in the MIAA with 142 shots this season, 76 of which were on goal. Mariah Nicolet leads Northeastern's offense with five of the RiverHawks 16 goals.
• Head Coach Chase Wooten is in his ninth season as head coach of the RiverHawks. In Wooten's 15 years as a head women's soccer coach, he posts career record of 149-10-21 and is 106-50-14 in his time at Northeastern.
The Hillcats
• Rogers State joins the MIAA in 2019 after posting a 10-6-2 record, with a 7-5-2 mark in the Heartland Conference, last season. The Hillcats was picked sixth in the MIAA Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning 63 points in the vote to secure a spot in the top half of the 12-team league.
• Rogers returns two of their five 2018 All-Heartland Conference selections. Bria Salazar earned second-team honors in her sophomore season after being named the Heartland Conference Freshman of the Year in the 2017 season. Hannah Mushicky also earned second-team honors, scoring eight goals for the Hillcats last season. Salazar and Mushicky are also a two-time United Soccer Coaches All-Region selections.
• The Hillcats went 0-2 last week with a 1-0 loss to Newman last Sunday and a 4-1 loss to the league leaders, Central Oklahoma, last Friday. Rogers has won a game since week three when the Hillcats defeated Southern Nazarene 5-3 on the road.
• Rogers State has recorded 91 shots, 52 of which were on goal. Laurelle Theodore leads the team with three goals while four other Hillcats make up for the team's 10 goals.
• Head Coach Yolanda Thomas is entering her second season as the head coach of the Women's Soccer program at Rogers State. Thomas, an Oklahoma State women's soccer Alumni, inherited a program that had just one winning season in the previous six years and guided the Hillcats to a 10-6-2 record.
Jennies Spotlight:
•
Kassie Newsom and
Madi Poertner led the Jennies offense last week with two goals each.
• Newsom scored the only goal in UCM's 1-0 victory over Missouri Western and the second goal in the Jennies 4-0 shutout over Northwest.
• Poertner scored her first collegiate goals against the Bearcats. The freshman scored the Jennies final two goals against Northwest with one being scored from far beyond the 18.

Haley Freeman recorded two more assists last week as she leads the Jennies with six on the season. Freeman is only two assist away from breaking into the UCM top-10 single-season assist list.

Makayla Toth continues to lead the Jennies with seven goals this season. Toth recently passed Becky Lackey ('13) in the UCM record books as she moved up to seventh with 34 career goals.
•
Lindsey Johnson started her sophomore campaign ranked ninth in career saves with 78. With 19 saves so far this season, Johnson has moved up from ninth to eighth 97 career saves.
