TOPEKA, Kan. (Sept. 22, 2018) - No. 19 Mules Football picked up their second loss on the road against Washburn. After today's game, the Mules are 0-2 on the road and 2-2 in the MIAA.
How it Happened
• Washburn outgained the Mules 489-383 including a 128-86 yard advantage on the ground.
• The Ichabods won the turnover battle 4-1 with all five turnovers in the game coming from interceptions.
• Washburn led in time of possession, controlling the ball for 32:55.Â
• Clean game for the Mules in terms of penalties with just two for 15 yards. Washburn committed eight for 98 yards.Â
• The Mules were on the board first when
Shae Wyatt caught an 18-yard pass, but the kick was no good leaving the score 6-0.
• Shortly after the Ichabods have an answer, as Will Hamilton was on the receiving end of a 48-yard pass to lead the Mules 7-6.
• Washburn had some momentum and around two-minutes later quarterback Mitch Schurig throws a 22-yard pass to Michael Lickteig to extend their lead 14-6.
• UCM got off one more touchdown before the end of the first quarter a minute later as
Koby Wilkerson goes on an 18-yard run into the endzone, but the kick is blocked and Mules trail 14-12.
• Central Missouri was the first to score in the second quarter as
Alex Langer successfully kicks a 37-yard field goal to add three and give the Mules the lead 15-14.
• The Ichabods respond with a 33-yard pass to James Brania-Hopp to take the lead right back 21-15.
• After a Mules punt, on second and four, Schurig slung a 74-yard pass to Austen Herbert for a touchdown making it 28-15.
• The Mules were not back on the board until there was 1:05 left in the fourth quarter.
Jeremy Hunt found
Kyrion Parker for a 20-yard pass and a touchdown, but the extra point is no good 21-28.
• Mules were in Ichabod territory on 12 out of 16 drives.
• Neither team scored in the second half and it was a one-possession battle to the end with Washburn coming out on top 28-21.
It Was Over When
•
Jeremy Hunt's pass intended for
Shae Wyatt was picked off by Corey Ballentine of Washburn causing an interception with 6:56 remaining in the fourth quarter, and the Ichabods regained possession.
Mules Stat Leaders
• Hunt finished the day completing 23-of-41 passes for 297 yards and two touchdowns with four interceptions. He also ran eight times for 24 yards.

Shae Wyatt led UCM with 127 receiving yards on nine catches with a touchdown.
•
Kyrion Parker caught six passes for 73 yards and a touchdown.
•
Koby Wilkerson led the Mules on the ground with 52 yards on 11 carries with a touchdown.

Devante Turner added 29 yards on the ground with 12 carries and returned four kicks for 136 yards. Turner also added two catches for 44 yards.

Dylan Albertson led the defense with 13 tackles and blocked a field goal attempt by the Ichabods.

John Embrey added 11 tackles and
Kolesen Crane contributed eight tackles.
For the Ichabods
• Mitch Schurig started at quarterback and completed 24-of-37 passes for 361 yards and four touchdowns with one interception.Â
• James Brania-Hopp caught ten passes for 138 yards and one touchdown.
• Hunter Browning gained a game-high 56 yards on the ground.
• Defensively, Austin Tillman had a game-high of 10-tackles.
• Alvin Houston recorded a quarterback sacks and three tackles.
News and Notes
• This loss for the Mules breaks a six-game winning streak against the Washburn Ichabods.
• The last time Washburn picked up a win over the Mules was in September of 2009.
• After this game both the Mules and the Ichabods are 2-2 on the season, and in the MIAA.
• Washburn led the Mules in receiving yards with 361, to the Mules 297.
• This is the first time the Mule defense has allowed more than 20 points in a game this season.
