Jens Sweep Drury in Season Opener

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (August 23, 2018) - No. 22 Central Missouri Jennies Volleyball got their season started off with a 3-0 sweep of Drury. The Jens took down the Panthers in three sets, 25-21, 25-18, 25-18.

Play-by-Play
• The first set saw the teams going back and forth at the outset with three ties and two lead changes. Ahead by one, 9-8, the Jens went on a 5-2 run to take their largest lead of the set, 14-10. Four of the five points in the stretch came on kills with two from Audrey Fisher. The Panthers got back to within one though, 15-14, scoring three straight points, forcing a Jennies timeout. After the break, the Jens quickly went back up by four and Drury couldn't keep up. Hannah Engelken's second kill of the set gave UCM a 1-0 lead in the match, ending the set at 25-21. The Jennies landed 17 kills in the set and hit .364. Fisher had six of her nine kills in set one.
• The second set started just as the first did. Midway through, the Jens again held a slim 9-8 lead. That's when things turned around as UCM went on a 10-2 run to open up a 19-10 lead and take the Panthers out of it. The Jennies stretch came mostly from Drury mistakes as they took advantage of seven Drury attack errors during the run. Kylie Hohlen landed her fourth kill to put a close on set two. The Panthers hit .020 with 13 kills and 12 errors in the frame.
• Central Missouri stormed out to a large lead in set three and never trailed on their way to a 25-18 win. UCM scored 10 of the first 15 points, helped out by five Hohlen kills. Drury got to within four at 16-12, but that's as close as they came. The Jens scored three straight, including a kill from setter Ally Offerdahl, finding an empty back corner. UCM was able to cruise from there to a 25-18 win.
