Baseball Season Comes to a Close in Magnolia

MAGNOLIA, Ark. (May 20, 2018) - Central Missouri Mules Baseball season came to an end Sunday afternoon in Magnolia. The Mules squared off with the No. 1 seed Southern Arkansas Muleriders and could not overcome an early deficit in their 11-6 loss. The Mules finish the season at 39-17.

Play-by-Play
• Southern Arkansas put the Mules in a hole early scoring seven runs in the second inning. Dakota Wright and Mark Fontenot each hit home runs to start the scoring. Three of the Muleriders next four runs in the inning were unearned as UCM committed two errors. Wright picked up his second RBI hit of the inning to cap the scoring with a long double to left.
• Central Missouri got the leadoff runner on in each of the first three innings. In the third, Whalin and Janvrin each reached base to start the frame, but three straight outs kept the Mules off the scoreboard. 
• The Muleriders padded their lead in the fourth before a hour and 20 minute lightning delay. SAU scored two more unearned runs off of RBI singles from Jacob Richardson and Cortland McPherson.
• SAU made it a double-figure lead in the sixth, scoring two more runs. Fontenot and Zach Muldoon hit back-to-back two-out RBI singles as the Muleriders took an 11-3 lead.
• Central Missouri finally cashed in in the seventh. With two outs, Travis Able singled up the middle on a full count, and Collin Nevil followed with an opposite field double to left. 
• One inning later, another two-out RBI off the bat of Cole Hoover. He blooped a double down the right field line allowing Harrison Schnurbusch to score the Mules fourth run.
• Collin Nevil ended his career with a bang. In the ninth he followed a Travis Able single with a long home run to center field to cap the scoring for the Mules.

Mules Stat Leaders
• Mason Janvrin finished 4-5 with a run scored.
• Collin Nevil picked up three hits in five at bats with four RBI.
• Travis Able also knocked three hits finishing 3-4 with two runs and an RBI.
• Collin Jones started and couldn't make it out of the seven-run seventh. He gave up seven runs, four earned on seven hits with three strikeouts.
• Cole Hoover entered the game and had a double and an RBI.

For the Muleriders
• Tanner Vaught started and threw 7.2 innings, giving up four runs, one earned on 12 hits. He also walked two and struck out five.
• Mark Fontenot finished with two hits, going 2-5 with a home run and three RBI.
• Dakota Wright also homered and was 2-5 with two RBI.
• Jacob Richardson and Zach Muldoon each had two hits and an RBI.

News and Notes
• Collin Nevil's home run in his final career at bat was number 31. It moves him into sole possession of third place all time in Mules history. It's also his 17th this season. 
• Mason Janvrin finished the year with 92 hits, which is just outside the top-10 most in a single season.
• The Mules outhit the Muleriders 14-12, but the Muleriders were able to take advantage of four Mule fielding errors.
• Central Missouri used seven pitchers in the game. Bryce Kearns, Jonathan Sprinkle, Coby Seiz and Luke Mercer combined for 3.1 hitless innings in relief.
• Mules pitching struck out 11 SAU batters.
• For the four games in Magnolia, the Mules offense scored 37 runs, averaging 9.25 runs per game.
