Jennies Conclude Regular Season with a Win at Pittsburg State

PITTSBURG, Kan. (Feb. 24, 2018) - Central Missouri Jennies Basketball finish the regular season on a five-game winning streak after their 60-56 win at Pittsburg State. The Jennies end the regular season at 24-2 overall and 18-1 in the MIAA.

How it Happened
• The Jennies shot the ball extremely well, especially from three, going 46% from the floor and 65% (11-17) from three. PSU was just 38% and 3-18 (16.7%) from three.
• Pittsburg State did most of their work underneath the basket. They held a 37-29 advantage in rebounding and outscored UCM 34-18 in the paint.
• Both teams played a clean game with just 23 total foul calls and 12 total free throw attempts.
• Neither team led by more than 10 and each held a high lead of eight points. The game saw a total of three ties and seven lead changes.
• It was a hot start, especially for the Gorillas who scored 23 points in the first 10 minutes, their highest scoring quarter of the game.
• A three pointer from Sydney Crockett cut a PSU lead down to one, 14-13 with 3:31 left in the first. Following that, the Gorilla went on a 7-0 run in just over two minutes and took a 21-13 lead and led by seven, 23-16, after 10 minutes.
• UCM made some adjustments defensively and allowed just 33 points over the next 30 minutes.
• The Jens started their comeback in the second quarter and took a 29-27 lead on a three from Megan Skaggs.
• Both teams traded baskets in the final four minutes and at the break things were even, 34-34.
• The three-point barrage really heated up in the third quarter. The Jennies went 5-6 from beyond the arc in the frame. Megan Skaggs, Morgan Fleming and Kesley Williams all hit one and Paige Redmond drained two. Redmond's second gave UCM their largest lead, 48-40 with just under three minutes to play in the quarter.
• Central Missouri, who trailed by seven, this time took a seven point lead of their own, 51-44 into the fourth quarter.
• The Gorillas got some stops on the defensive end and made a run, scoring six straight to close the gap to one, 55-54 with 5:51 left to play.
• Megan Skaggs hit a long jumper to put a stop to the Gorillas scoring streak, and after PSU answered with a layup making it 57-56 Jennies, the Gorillas never scored again.
• PSU went 0-8 in the final 3:15 and a three-point play from Williams sealed the game for the Jennies.

It Was Over When...
• Although PSU had plenty of chances in the final 2:42, Kelsey Williams swung all the momentum back towards UCM. She was one of three Jennies who trapped Mikaela Burgess following a rebound and came away with a steal and a layup. She drew a foul on the play and knocked in just the Jennies third free throw of the game and put UCM back up by four, 60-56 which proved to be the final score.

Jennies Stat Leaders
• Two Jennies were in double figures led by Megan Skaggs' 16 points. She was 6-12 from the field and 4-6 from three.
• Paige Redmond scored 13 points and was 3-4 from three point land. She also grabbed six rebounds and had five assists.
• Kayonna Lee scored six points and pulled down six boards.
• Kelsey Williams chipped in with eight points and dished out six assists.
• Morgan Fleming scored seven. Jolene Shipps added five and had four rebounds.

 For the Gorillas
• Madison Northcutt was the Gorillas leading scorer and rebounder. She scored 14 and pulled down six rebounds.
• Shelby Lopez added 12 points.
• Paige Imhoff scored four points and had five assists.
• Mikaela Burgess added seven points and three assists, but was just 1-11 from three.

News and Notes
• Central Missouri's 64.7% from three is their highest percentage this season. It is just the second time all-year breaking 50% with the last coming in their season opener.
• The Jennies 18 MIAA wins are the most in program history. It is also the second time in MIAA a team has won 18 games in a 19 game schedule.
• Pittsburg State stopped the Jennies 16 game winning streak earlier in the February and this win stops the Gorillas win streak at nine.
• Megan Skaggs's four three pointers are the most in a game in her career.

Up Next
• Central Missouri knows the time and place of their next game, but not the opponent. As the No. 1 seed in the MIAA Tournament, Central Missouri will play Thursday, March 1 at 6. They await the winner of No. 8 Missouri Southern vs. No. 9 Lindenwood. That MIAA First Round game will be played Monday, Feb. 26.
