Jennies Soccer Heads To Kansas For The Weekend

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Oct. 17, 2018)-- Central Missouri Soccer is headed to Kansas this weekend to take on the Ichabods of Washburn and the Hornets of Emporia State. The Jens had a great week playing on their home field and went 2-0 last week in Warrensburg. The Jennies are now 11-2-1 on the season and move to 5-1-1 in the MIAA.

The Week Ahead
• The Jennies had another successful week at Jennies Field going 2-0. The Jennies took on Fort Hays on a chilly Friday night and beat the Tigers 1-0. The Jennies came back Sunday to shutout the Lopers of Nebraska-Kearney 2-0. This improved their overall record to 11-2-1 and 5-1-1 in the MIAA. 

• The Jennies enter the 2018 season ranked No. 1 in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll (formerly National Soccer Coaches Association of America). UCM is coming off its eighth straight MIAA Regular Season championship, fourth MIAA Tournament championship, fourth straight Central Region crown, and a 2017 NCAA D2 National Championship Title.

Series History
Washburn: UCM leads 20-5-1

The Jennies and the Ichabods met up at Jennies Field in the 2017 season and the Jens defeated them 2-1. UCM and Washburn have met a total of 26 times and the Jennies lead the series.

Emporia State: UCM leads 23-3-2
UCM took on ESU twice at Jennies Field last season. In their first meeting, the Jennies took down the Hornets 2-1. When the two met again in Warrensburg the Jens shut them out 4-0.

Scouting the Competition
Washburn

• The Ichabods are now 6-6-2 on the season. After a tough 0-1-1 week last week. The Ichabods tied the Riverhawks of Northeastern State 1-1. After that Washburn fell to No. 11 Central Oklahoma 1-7 in Edmond, Oklahoma.
• Washburn is led by Olvia Grasso and Tera Lynch. Grasso, a junior forward has six goals, one assist, and 24 shots on the season. Lynch, a sophomore min-fielder leads the team in assists with six, has two goals on the season and 25 shots for the Ichabods. 
• Head Coach Davy Phillips enters his first season with the Ichabods of Washburn.
• The Jennies lead the Ichabods all-time 20-5-1.

Emporia State
• The Hornets are coming off of a tough 0-2 week on the road in Oklahoma. ESU fell to No. 11 Central Oklahoma Bronchos 1-2 on the road. Then fell to the Riverhawks of Northeastern State 0-1 in Tahlequah, Ok. The Hornets are now 9-4-1 on the season. 
• The Hornets are led by freshman mid-fielder Rachel Marshall, who has six goals on the season, 30 shots and 12 points thus far. Senior mid-fielder Maria Walden is a player to watch with four goals, one assist and 28 shots on the season. The Hornets goalkeeper freshman Jillian Patton has 48 saves on the season and has faced 139 shots. 
• Head Bryan Sailer is in his eighth season as the ESU head coach. 
• Central Missouri leads Emporia State 23-3-2 all-time.

Opening Weekend
• The Jennies 88 goals scored last this season ranks them in the top five in Division II in total goals at second.
• The Jennies have averaged 3.52 goals per game this season which ranked third in Division II in scoring offense.
• UCM's 45 assists last season was the most in the MIAA and was tied for tenth most in Division II.
• With 221 points total on 88 goals scored and 45 assists, the Jennies were third in Division II in total points.
• In 24 games last season, UCM outscored opponents 88-4 with a 538-204 shots advantage.

Bringing Home the Hardware
• The Jennies posted shutouts in 21 of their wins last season and their four goals allowed was the least allowed in Division II this season.
• The Jennies all-around defense in shutouts (21), shutout percentage (.875), goals-against average (.160), and save percentage (.956) leads all of Division II this season.
• The Jennies were the only team in Division II that allowed just four goals this season. The Jennies four goals allowed was the least allowed in the MIAA. Their 21 shutouts and 25 wins were the most in a single season in UCM History

One for the Record Books
• The 2017 squad is the first team in program history and MIAA history to post 12 consecutive shutouts. 
• UCM was just the fourth team in NCAA Division II history to post 12 consecutive shutouts
• Dating back to the 2015 season, UCM has scored a goal in 58 straight games which are both a UCM and MIAA record.
• The Jennies were 26-0-0 for the first time in program history. No other team in program history has ever accomplished that feat.
• UCM's 221 points and 88 goals are the most in a single season in program history.
