WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Aug. 31, 2017) - Central Missouri Mules Football (1-0) got off to a slow start, but helped by a 19-0 run in the second half, came back for a 28-23 win over Pittsburg State (0-1) on opening night.
How it Happened
• Central Missouri scored on their opening possession of the game, a 13 yard rush from quarterback
Brook Bolles. The lead was short lived as the Gorillas took a 10-6 lead after the first quarter. UCM got within one on an
Alex Langer field goal, but Pittsburg State scored with 61 seconds to go in the half to go up seven, 16-9.
• Pittsburg State needed to change quarterbacks at the half and couldn't find their stride on offense. Central Missouri scored 19 straight points in the second half, getting a 33 yard touchdown pass from Bolles to
Seth Hebert on fourth-and-two, and a 50 yard scamper from
Devante Turner.
• Pitt State finally spoiled the second half shutout with a late touchdown, but the Mules recovered the Gorillas onside kick attempt and ran out the clock.
It was Over When
• Leading by six, 22-16, with just over four minutes to play, Turner had ideas other than just running out the clock. He took the handoff on the Mules first play of the drive right up the gut and went untouched to the endzone for a 50 yard score.Â

On the Defensive

Kolesen Crane quarterback sack, but they held the 2016 offensive leaders to just 371 total yards and 23 points, well below their 2016 average.
