Lauren Mabe Sets UCM Career Hits Record

EDMOND, Okla. (April 8, 2017) - Central Missouri Jennies senior first baseman Lauren Mabe made history Saturday afternoon. With a two-out double in the fourth inning of game two against Central Oklahoma, she earned career hit number 223, a new Central Missouri all-time record. She needed two hits in game two to pull off the feat, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

Mabe entered her senior season needing 35 hits to break the record and did so in the 41st game of the season. A starter since her freshman year, Mabe collected 48 hits as a freshman, 82 as a sophomore, 58 as a junior and now 35 in 2017. Her 82 hits in 2015 is also the Jennies single-season record.

Unfortunately, the Jennies couldn't pull out a victory in either end of their doubleheader against the Bronchos. The sweep knocks them down to 19-22 on the season and 9-7 in the MIAA.

Game Two: Central Oklahoma 10, Central Missouri 4
Game two featured a lot of scoring, especially early. The Jens kicked things off getting a run on three hits in the first when Mabe's single to center, her record-tying hit, drove in Makayla Schoonover to put UCM on top, 1-0.

The lead quickly evaporated though as the Bronchos scored four runs off the Jennies starter Alexa Bradley. Despite the early struggles, Bradley pitched all six innings for UCM, giving up 13 hits and 10 runs (seven earned) with five walks and four wild pitches.

A two-out rally in the third brought UCM to within one, 4-3. Carlie Rose singled and Hailey Crabtree walked before Jordan Johnson doubled them both home.

But UCO scored a run in the third and fourth innings and four in the fifth to put the game out of reach.

Mabe had two of the Jennies six hits in the game, along with two RBI. Crabtree reached base three times via walk and scored a run.

Peyton Walker threw the final five innings for UCO to earn the win. She gave up three runs on three hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Jessi Walker got the start and lasted two innings, allowing a run on three hits with two walks.

The top of the Broncho order did the most damage. Morgan Heard and Carrie Abrams went a combined 5-for-8 with four runs and two RBI out of the top two spots in the lineup.

Game One: Central Oklahoma 8, Central Missouri 0 - 6 innings
The first game of the doubleheader was all Central Oklahoma. They got a terrific pitching performance out of Jayden Chestnut who threw a six-inning perfect game with eight strikeouts.

The UCO offense backed her up scoring runs in each of the final four innings. The big blow came in the third when Tori Collet launched a three-run homer to left center to break a scoreless tie.

Jennies starter Katie Giacone took the loss, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits in 5.1 innings with five walks and a strikeout.

Collet and Heard each had two hits for the Bronchos. Heard also scored twice and had an RBI.

Central Missouri wraps up a season-long 10-game road trip next Wednesday, April 12 when they take on Missouri Western in St. Joseph, Mo. The late afternoon doubleheader is scheduled for 4 p.m.
