PITTSBURG, Kan. (March 4, 2017) -- Central Missouri fell behind early and couldn't mount a comeback as they fell at Pittsburg State 13-6 in game two of a three-game series on Saturday afternoon.
The Gorillas (7-10, 1-4 MIAA) struck first with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first from Dallas Reed to grab the early lead. Logan Terrell had an RBI single in the second to make it 3-0.
The Mules (12-3, 4-1 MIAA) got on the board in the third on
Travis Stroup's RBI single, but PSU got that run right back in the bottom of the inning to lead 4-1.
UCM pulled to within 4-3 in the fifth on
Collin Nevil's two-run home run, but the Gorillas answered right back with two runs in the home half to lead 6-3.
Blake Wilfong's sacrifice fly in the sixth made it 6-4, but Pitt State scored twice in the seventh and five runs in the eighth to break the game open.
UCM scored two runs in the ninth on a Stroup home run, but it wasn't enough as the Mules fell 13-6.
Taylor Burns (2-1) took the loss after allowing six runs on six hits in four innings of work. Ethan Vanderpool (1-2) earned the win for Pitt State after allowing three unearned runs on seven hits in five innings.
The series wraps up on Sunday with the rubber game at 1 p.m.
