Mabe's Grand Slam, Bradley's Arm lead Jennies to Two Wins

DURANT, Okla. (Feb. 4, 2017) – Central Missouri Softball picked up a pair of wins this afternoon at the Southeastern Oklahoma Regional Invitational. The Jens started their day mashing their way to a 13-5 win over Southeastern Oklahoma before winning a 2-1 pitching duel against Oklahoma Christian. The victories give UCM three straight and move them to 3-1 on the young season.

Game 1: Central Missouri 13, Southeastern Oklahoma 5

The Jennies hit three home runs against Savage Storm pitching, but it wasn't until the final inning that the Jennies put the game away.

Allie Dishinger got the party started with a two-run homer in the first after Lauren Mabe kept the inning alive with a two-out single. The Jennies pushed their lead to six, 7-1 with a three-run second inning and a two-run homer from Hailey Crabtree in the fourth.

The Savage Storm got one back in the second and made it a two-run game, 7-5, scoring four runs on back-to-back-to-back run scoring singles.

UCM broke the game open in the seventh, scoring six runs before an out was recorded. Madison Hood started the inning with a double and Courtni Smith reached base with a single to left. A fielder's choice loaded the bases and the first run came across on Lauryn Deer's RBI walk. A run-scoring single plated the second run, and Mabe punctuated the inning with a grand slam, putting the Jens up 13-5. She finished the game 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored.

The Jens totaled 15 hits in the game, five different starting players knocked at least two. Crabtree picked up three hits with four RBI and two runs scored.

Jordan Johnson started and got the win for Central Missouri. She gave up five runs, one earned on eight hits while walking three. Alexa Bradley shut the door for the final two innings, picking up her second save of the season. She allowed one hit and struck out one.

Southeastern Oklahoma knocked nine hits, getting two hits and two runs from Symphoni Shomo.

Game Two: Central Missouri 2, Oklahoma Christian 1

What a difference one game can make. After scoring 13 runs on 15 hits in game one, the Jennies leaned on Bradley's arm to get them through game two.

The Jens spotted Bradley a two run lead when Smith connected for her first home run of a year in the second inning.

It was all Bradley from there, making those two runs hold up. The Lady Eagles got a run back in the sixth on an RBI double from Madison Nordyke. Bradley got the next three batters to keep the lead intact and threw a perfect seventh to pick up her first career win. She went the distance allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

The Jennies scattered six hits, getting two apiece from Smith and Alex Leonhart.

Madison Hagood threw a complete game for the Lady Eagles allowing two runs on six hits with five strikeouts and three walks in six innings. Nordyke went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Central Missouri will wrap up their time in Durant with two more games tomorrow. They take on Southwestern Oklahoma State at 9:30 a.m. and Texas A&M International at 12:30 p.m.
