MILLINGTON, Tenn. (Feb. 4, 2017) -- Mules Baseball won a thriller, 3-2, over North Alabama on Saturday at the USA Stadium. The Mules earned a walk-off win, taking advantage of a UNA error in the outfield in the bottom of the ninth.
The Mules (1-1) scored first, breaking through in the fourth inning with a pair of runs.
Blake Wilfong led off the inning with a double, went to third on an error and scored on
Collin Nevil's grounder to the right side that was also misplayed.
Travis Stroup scored later in the frame on
Connor Sorge's RBI fielder's choice and the Mules led 2-0.
UNA (1-1) got a run back in the sixth, scoring an unearned run on Logan Carter's sacrifice fly.
The 2-1 lead for the Mules stood until the ninth when Brandt Holland led off the inning with a solo home run to tie the game at two.
Jackson Schnurbusch singled with one out in the bottom of the ninth to put the winning run on.
Elijah Dilday roped a double down the right field line and when the ball was bobbled in the outfield it allowed Schnurbusch to race home with the game-winning run.
Andy Muehlberger (1-0) picked up the win in relief for the Mules. He allowed one run on one hit with two strikeouts in 1.1 innings of work. Starter
Jesse Steinbring lasted four innings, allowing just two hits while striking out three and walking four.Â
Lane Wallace (0-1) took the loss for UNA after allowing one unearned run on four hits over 3.1 innings of relief.
The series wraps up on Sunday with a noon first pitch.
