HAYS, Kan. (Feb. 2, 2017)-- The Central Missouri Mules Wrestling team (5-8, 1-3 MIAA) dropped its sixth straight dual, as they fell to the 16th ranked Fort Hays State Tigers Thursday night on the road.
John Feeney and
Jesse Reser picked up individual wins for the Mules at 133 pounds and 165 pounds, respectively.
The Mules forfeited at 125 pounds for the seventh straight dual and trailed 6-0 early. Feeney got UCM on the board scoring a 5-4 decision over Wyatt Alvis, bringing the team score to 6-3, Tigers.
Daide Agnew competed at 141 pounds for the Mules. He had a 9-7 advantage midway through the third period, but Anthony Calderon responded with a two-point takedown and two-point near fall to walk away with a 11-9 decision.
The Tigers won the next two matches to lead 19-3 at the midway point. 149 pounder
Zachary Schridde dropped a 12-3 major decision, while
Zane Heiter was pinned in 2:46 at 157 pounds.
At 165 pounds, Reser improved to 22-5 overall and 11-1 in duals pinning Kyler Mick in 1:22. Reser now leads the team in wins and has eight pins on the season, also a team high.
The Mules deficit was cut to 19-9 with Reser's win, but they would not get any closer as the Tigers won the final four weight classes. In his first match as a Mule,
Cole Kemna dropped a close 3-2 decision at 174 pounds. UCM forfeited at 184 pounds, giving Fort Hays State a 28-9 advantage.
197 pounder
Grant Sparks was pinned in 3:58 by Jon Inman who is ranked second nationally at 197 pounds for the Tigers. At 285 pounds,
Chase Miller fell to Christian Lance by way of a 3-2 decision.
The Mules will be right back in action tomorrow, Feb. 3, at No. 2 Nebraska-Kearney. Action against the Lopers will get started at 7 p.m.
