Jennies Lose to a Pair of Ranked Teams in Bentonville

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (Feb. 17, 2017) -  Central Missouri opened up the Arkansas Monticello Eight State Classic with losses to two ranked opponents, No. 18 Harding and No. 5 Southern Arkansas. The losses put the Jennies at 5-8 for the season, with four games left in Bentonville.

Game One: No. 18 Harding 7, Central Missouri 0

Central Missouri gave up three home runs in a 7-0 loss to No. 18 Harding. The Lady Bisons got a run in each of the first two innings, scoring on a one-out single in the first and a solo home run leading off the second.

With the score still 2-0 in the fourth, the Jennies got out of a bases-loaded jam to keep the score close. Just an inning later, Harding broke things open scoring three in the fifth on a two-out three-run home run.

Harding added two more in the seventh on their third home run of the game to get our 7-0 final.

The Jennies totaled just three hits, all doubles, with Hailey Crabtree collecting two. Alexis Koop knocked the other for UCM.

Central Missouri starter Jordan Johnson threw the first three innings. She gave up two runs on five hits. Katie Giacone pitched the final four innings. She allowed five runs on five hits with three strikeouts.

Reigning Great American Conference Pitcher of the Week Hannah Johnson tossed all seven innings for the Lady Bison, giving up three hits, one walk and striking out four.

Harding collected 10 hits in the game, two apiece from Courtney Derrick, Kimmy Hendricks and Amanda Berdon. Amanda Berry went 1-3 with a home run and three RBI.

Game Two: No. 5 Southern Arkansas 14, Central Missouri 5

The Lady Mule Riders entered Friday night's game as the No. 5 ranked team by the NFCA, with one of the top offenses in Division II. The Jennies jumped on the Lady Mule Riders early, taking a 2-0 lead after the first when Lauren Mabe doubled home Hailey Crabtree, then stole third and scored on a wild throw from the catcher. 

That lead didn't last long though, as Southern Arkansas scored four in the second inning and five times in the third to take a 9-2 lead, they never gave. up. The Jennies added two runs in the third on a home run from Mabe and one in the seventh. The Lady Mule Riders scored once more in the sixth and four more runs in the seventh.

Mabe had her best game of the season in a losing effort. She drove home two more runs in the third with her second home run of the season, a two-run homer to right center. She finished 2-3 with two runs, three RBI and a stolen base. 

Hailey Crabtree picked up the Jennies other RBI on a groundout in the seventh. She went 1-4 with two runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Makayla Schoonover finished 2-3 and stole a base. 

Alexa Bradley threw all seven innings for the Jennies. She gave up 14 runs (nine earned) on 18 hits with two walks and three strikeouts. The loss puts her at 2-4 on the season. 

The Lady Mule Riders pounded out 18 hits, getting four apiece from Jill Roye and Megan Godoyo. Brooke Goad went 3-4 with 4 RBI and Maddie Dow was 1-4 with a HR and three RBI.

Kaylee Garner got the start and earned the win for Southern Arkansas. She tossed five innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits with one strikeout. Peyton Jenkins tossed two innings in relief allowing an unearned run on three hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

UCM has four games left in Bentonville. They take on Henderson State tomorrow afternoon and No. 24 Missouri-St. Louis. Game times are scheduled for 3 and 5 p.m.
