Third-ranked Mules open weekend with 11-4 win over Truman State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (Feb. 10, 2017) – Third-ranked Mules Baseball moved to 3-1 on the season with an 11-4 win over Truman State on Friday night. With the win, the Mules have now won 85 straight games against their former MIAA rival.
 
The Mules (3-1) jumped out to a big lead in the second inning, plating seven runs to grab a 7-0 lead. Blake Wilfong got UCM on the board, bringing home two runs with a bases loaded single. Elijah Dilday came home on a double steal for a three-run lead and Jackson Schnurbusch's RBI single made it 4-0. Travis Stroup completed the scoring with a three-run home run.
 
Travis Able doubled in the third inning and scored on Schnurbusch's RBI single to extend the UCM lead to 8-0.
 
The Bulldogs (0-1) took advantage of a hit by pitch, single and back-to-back UCM errors in the bottom of the fourth to plate two runs and pull within 8-2.
 
Central Missouri came right back in the top of the fifth. Wilfong was hit by a pitch leading off and came all the way around to score on a throwing error. Schnurbusch drove in his third run of the game with a sacrifice fly to make it 10-2.
 
Dilday extended the lead to 11-2 in the sixth with a sacrifice fly, driving in Miles Orscheln after a one-out triple.
 
Truman State scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth after a leadoff hit by pitch and three straight hits.
 
Ben Kelsch (1-1) tossed five solid innings, allowing just two unearned runs on one hit while striking out four to pick up his first win of the year. Stanton Lohrengel tossed two innings of perfect relief in his first outing of the season.
 
Kent Frantz (0-1) was tagged with the loss for Truman State after giving up eight runs on 10 hits in four innings of work.
 
The Mules wrap up their trip to Arkansas with two games on Saturday. UCM takes on Ouachita Baptist at 1 p.m. and Henderson State at 6 p.m.
