Jennies Win Fourth Straight MIAA Tournament Championship

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Nov. 5, 2017)-- Central Missouri Jennies Soccer won their fourth straight MIAA Tournament Championship and fifth overall on Sunday afternoon with a 4-1 win over the No. 2 seeded Missouri Western State Griffons. With the win, the Jennies remain undefeated on the season at 21-0.

How It Happened
• In the third match between the Jennies and Griffons (17-4), the Jennies produced a season-high 35 shots and held the Griffons to just three. In shots on goal, UCM managed to totally 15 while scoring four goal, while MWSU had just two on frame with one goal.
• It took some time for the Jennies get on the board as they did not produce their first goal until the 35th minute. Jada Scott broke the scoreless game with shot from inside the right box that deflected off the crossbar and into the net to give UCM a 1-0 lead. Kayla Hamnner was credited the assist.
• The Jennies made it 2-0 before halftime thanks a goal by Emily Griffin in the 43rd minute. After a deflected save by the goalkeeper, Griffin was in the right place at the right time and hit her goal from the side of the box. Going into halftime with the 2-0 lead, UCM had a 18-2 shots edge over MWSU. 
• Just one minute and twenty seconds into the second period, Abby Rhodes made it a 3-0 UCM lead. After a mishandled pass by the Griffons at midfield, she stole the ball, got to the right wing and sent her shot to the left end of the net past the goalkeeper's reach.
• The Griffons denied the Jennies a chance for their 19th shutout of the season in the 58th minute. After a UCM foul, the Griffons had a free kick from the right wing and Sydney Cluck capitalized when the ball got into the box after Ana Dilkes did not secure the grab. Cluck hit the loose ball into an empty net, giving the Griffons their first goal against the Jennies this season.
• Kayla Hamner pushed the Jennies lead back to three in the 79th minute thanks to quick passes from Haley Freeman and Mikala Modiri. She got the ball on the left wing and hit the high middle end of the net to ultimately seal the game for UCM at 3-1. Freeman and Modiri were credited the assist.

Jennies Stat Leaders
• Scott and Rhodes led the UCM offensive charge as both finished with six shots, four shots on goal and one goal each. Scott's goal was her 14th of the season while Rhodes is her 15th. 
• Hamner was the leading point getter for the Jennies finishing with three. She had one goal and one assist, while taking five shots overall.
• Freeman and Baylie Edwards each finished with four shots apiece, while Freeman had one assist. 
• In net, Dilkes grabbed one save in three shots faced, while allowing just her third goal this season. 

For the Griffons
• Cluck was just one of three MWSU players to get only shot off against the Jens. Her one shot was on goal as she became the just third player to score against UCM this year. 
• Megan Maenner and Cassidy Menke both ha done shot each, while Maenner's one shot wa son goal.
• In net, Sarah Lyle grabbed 11 saves for the Griffons and allowed four goals.

News and Notes
• The Jennies win on Sunday was the 21st win of the season which matches a program record for wins in a season. It is the fourth straight year the Jennies have won 21 games.
• At 21-0-0, the Jennies continue to extend their program record for consecutive  wins. The previous best was 19 which was accomplished by the 2010 squad for UCM.
• The Jennies extend their MIAA record of scoring at least one goal in a match to 54 straight. 
• The Jennies remain a perfect 11-0 at home this season and dating back to the 2016 season they are 23-0 at home after Sunday's win.

• The Jennies will now wait to see where they will be ranked in the Central Region for the 2017 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship. The Jennies were ranked No. 1 in all three sets of NCAA regional rankings. The selection show will reveal who qualifies for the NCAA Tournament this Monday, Nov. 6, at 5 p.m. central time.
