WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Nov. 12, 2017)-- Top-ranked Central Missouri Jennies soccer punched their ticket to a fourth straight Central Region Championship berth with a 3-0 shutout win over the Augustana Vikings on Sunday afternoon at Jennies Field. The Jennies improve to 22-0 on the season and have posted 19 shutouts in 22 of those wins.
How It Happened
•
Abby Rhodes and
Jada Scott led the Jennies charge as the two accounted for the three goals. As a team, the Jennies outshot the Vikings (14-4-5) 27-6 over the 90 minutes of action and had a 14-4 shots on goal edge.
• It took some time for UCM to get on the board as both teams were scoreless through the first 31 minutes of play. Rhodes changed that for UCM in the 32nd minute when she nailed a header into the middle area of the net off a long pass from
Courtney Killian from the right side of the field. Killian was credited her third assist of the year as the Jennies grabbed a 1-0 lead.
• Going into halftime with the 1-0 lead, UCM totaled eight shots while limiting Augustana to just two.
• The Jennies came out of the break and immediately began applying pressure on offense and it paid off in the 48th minute. Scott scored her first of two goals in the period off a header from the right side of the box thanks to pass by
Kayla Hamner from the left wing.
• It took all the way until the 89:02 mark for the Jennies to score again, but Rhodes and Scott made it count. Rhodes had the ball far left side of the field, got all the way to the left wing and played soft pass to Scott, who used the crossbar to help her shot go in for her second score of the game.
• Like they have done all season, the Jennies controlled the tempo of the match. In the second period they took 19 shots and held the Vikings to just four to secure their 22nd win of the season.
