Jennies Shutout Griffons to Earn No. 1 Seed for MIAA Tournament

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (Oct. 29, 2017)-- Top-ranked Jennies Soccer won the 2017 MIAA Regular Season Title outright on Sunday afternoon as they downed the Missouri Western State Griffons (15-3, 9-2 MIAA) 2-0 at Spratt Memorial Stadium. With the win, the Jennies earn the No. 1 seed in the MIAA Soccer Tournament.

How It Happened
• It took some time for the Jennies (18-0, 11-0 MIAA) to get on the board as they did not score until the 35th minute. Jada Scott banged a header into the net off a corner kick by Kayla Hamner to give Central Missouri the 1-0 lead.
• The Jennies went into halftime with the lead and outshot the Griffons 6-2 with a 3-1 shots on goal edge.
• The Jennies continued to apply pressure offensively in the second period, but like the first period they did not score until late.
• In the 75th minute Baylie Edwards got to the right of the box, beat a defender, and hit the left end of the net from 12 yards out.
• For the game, UCM outshot MWSU 13-7 overall and 5-3 in shots on goal to walk away with the 2-0 shutout win.

Jennies Stat Leaders
• Jada Scott led the Jennies offensive charge taking five shots overall with one shot on goal. Her goal is her 13th of the year.
• Makayla Toth and Megan Woolley each finished with two total shots and one shot on goal. Edwards took just one shot, that was on goal, but made it count as she scored on the one shot.
• Goalkeeper Ana Dilkes grabbed three saves in seven shots faced as she and the Jennies defense posted their fourth straight shutout.

For the Griffons
• Cassidy Menke took three shots overall with one being on goal to lead MWSU.
• Sydney Cluck finished with two shots and both were on goal.
• In net, Sarah Lyle took the loss as she grabbed three saves and allowed two goals in just over 85 minutes of action.

News and Notes
• With the win the Jennies claim the MIAA Regular Season Title outright and earn the No. 1 seed in the MIAA Tournament. This is the Jennies eighth straight MIAA Regular Season crown and 10th overall in the last 11 seasons.
• The Jennies are the only team in Division II to finish with an undefeated regular season record without a tie this year.
• The Jennies extended their MIAA record of scoring at least one goal in a game to 51 straight.
• With her shutout on Sunday, Dilkes tied the NCAA Division II record for career shutouts at 59. She needs just one more shutout to own the record.
• The Jennies are 18-0-0 for just the second time in program history. The only other UCM squad to go 18-0-0 was the 2010 team.
• The Jennies 16 shutouts this season are the most in Division II.
•  In 10 roads games this season, UCM did not allow a single goal while outscoring opponents 34-0.

• The Jennies MIAA Tournament first round match will be this Wednesday, Nov. 1, against an opponent that is to be determined. Kickoff will be at 6 p.m. at Jennies Field.
