WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Jan. 6, 2017)-- The Central Missouri Mules Wrestling team pushed its undefeated dual record to 4-0 and started MIAA competition 1-0 with a 32-13 win over No. 23 Newman Friday night in the Multi.

The Mules scored victories in seven of the 10 weight classes, two of which came by pin from John Feeney and Steffon Fassett, respectively. Newman grabbed the first lead of the night with a pin at 125 pounds as Erick Vargas fell to Dustin Reed at 5:33.

At 133 pounds, Feeney controlled the match scoring 11 points before pinning Cole Sutterfield at 6:48. The Mules tied the dual at six, but an unsportmanlike penalty by Sutterfield cost Newman a team point and gave Central Missouri its first lead at 6-5.

Bradley Irwin extended the Mules lead to 10-5, scoring an 11-3 major decision at 141 pounds. The Jets responded with Tyler Mies earning a 18-0 tech fall over Zachary Schridde at 149 pounds. The Jets never led or tied the dual again as the Mules won the next five weight classes.

Fassett, at 157 pounds, pinned Colton Duhr at 5:55 to give the Mules the 16-10 advantage. 165 pounder Jesse Reser scored a 9-3 decision to push the lead to 19-10. At 174 pounds, Cody Carson earned a 17-4 major decision over Kyle Ryan. Carson got in a hole early trailing 4-0, but scored the next 17 points to secure his win and give the Mules their first double-digit lead of the night, 23-10.

184 pounder Allan Person scored a 6-3 decision over Noah Ornelas, pushing the Mules lead to 26-10. The Jets forfeited at 197 pounds, giving Ben Lancaster his first dual win of the season and securing the Mules lead to 32-10. In the 285-pound weight class, Chase Miller battled into overtime for the second straight dual. He and Thor Balavage were tied 1-1 going into overtime, but a takedown secured Balavage the 3-1 decision over Miller.

The Mules will host No. 8 Central Oklahoma Sunday, Jan. 8 to wrap up the weekend. Action gets started at 3 p.m. in the Multi.
