KEARNEY, Neb. (Jan. 14, 2017)-- The Central Missouri Mules Wrestling team (5-5, 1-1 MIAA) had a tough outing at the UNK Midwest Duals Saturday afternoon, finishing 1-3 in four duals. The Mules lone win came against Colorado School of Mines, 25-19.
Both
Bradley Irwin and
Jesse Reser finished the day 4-0 at 141 pounds and 165 pounds, respectively, while
Grant Sparks and
Chase Miller went 2-2 at 197 pounds and 285 pounds, respectively.
The Mules started the day taking on the Orediggers of Colorado School of Mines. The Mules forfeited 125 pounds and fell at 133 pounds as
Daide Agnew dropped an 18-7 major decision. Irwin got UCM on the board with 7-5 sudden victory at 141 pounds.
Zachary Schridde pinned his opponent in 2:14 to cut the Mules deficit to 10-9.
Steffon Fassett dropped an 11-8 decision at 157 pounds, while Reser pinned his opponent in 3:55 to give the Mules their first lead at 15-13.
Dylan Lewis fell at 174 pounds, but the Mules won the final three weight classes to secure a 25-19 win over the Orediggers.
Allan Person and
Grant Sparks both scored decisions in their wins at 184 pounds and 197 pounds respectively, while 285 pounder
Chase Miller scored an 16-3 major decision for the Mules.

The Mules next dual was against the University of Mary Marauders, where they fell 28-18. UCM dropped their first two weight classes via a forfeit at 125 pounds and
John Feeney losing an 18-7 major decision at 133 pounds. Irwin scored win No. 2 by way of a 10-2 major decision. Schridde dropped a 13-4 major decision to Hunter Eckert. Fassett responded from his first loss with a pin over Jacob Weisbrod in 5:00. Reser moved to 2-0 scoring a 14-6 major decision and Lewis dropped his second straight match by being pinned in 2:33. Person also fell due to due an injury defualt against Jacob Green at the 2:21 mark. Sparks shut out his opponent with a 10-0 major decision and Miller fell to Dominic Tudor, 18-4.

In the second half of the day at the duals, UCM took on San Francisco State. The Gators prevailed over the Mules walking away with a 39-12 victory. The Mules again forfeited at 125 pounds, while Feeney dropped his second straight match at 133 pounds. Irwin continued his strong start pinning Josh Villaflor in 3:36. Down 15-6 as a team, Fassett got UCM within six points scoring a 7-3 decision, cutting the deficit to 15-9. Reser scored win No. 3 with a 9-4 decision over Tyson Kuahine, as the Mules only trailed 15-12. The Gators won the final four weight classes to down the Mules and drop their record on the day to 1-2.

The Mules final dual was against the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State. The Mules, again, dropped their first two weight classes. They forfeited at 125 pounds, while 133 pounder Feeney dropped a 10-4 decision to put UCM in early 9-0 deficit. Irwin again responded for the Mules scoring an 8-3 decision to finish the day undefeated and bring the team score to 9-3. The Mustangs continued to build their lead winning the next two weight classes. Schridde was shutout as he fell in a 3-0 decision to Cortez Arrendondo and Fassett dropped a close 5-4 decision. Reser scored a 17-4 tech fall over Kegen Fingalsen to cut the Mules deficit to 15-8 and finish the day undefeated. The Mules only other win came in the final bout at 285 pounds as Miller won 3-2 decision over Quinn Bullard.
