Mules rally for 4-3 win in 11 innings at Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (March 22, 2016) -- The Central Missouri bullpen allowed one run over the final nine innings and the Mules rallied for a 4-3 win in 11 innings at Lindenwood on Tuesday night. The Mules are now 12-8 overall and 10-3 in MIAA play and tied for first in the league standings.

Lindenwood (9-12, 3-10 MIAA) jumped on top on a Mike Ehrhard RBI single in the bottom of the first to grab a 1-0 lead. The Mules tied the game in the third on Colton Hilbrenner's RBI single, only to see the Lions go right back in front in the home half of the inning on Ehrhard's sacrifice fly.

Central Missouri tied the game again in the fifth when Hilbrenner scored an unearned run on an error by Nathan Prindle at shortstop. The Mules took their first lead of the game in the sixth, 3-2, when Miles Orscheln drove in Bennett Oliver with an infield single. Oliver had tripled to lead off the inning.

The Lions quickly tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a Ryan Sosnowski RBI single. LWU threatened for more, but Andy Muehlberger was able to shut the Lions down and keep the game tied.

The Lions threatened in the seventh with two on and one out, but Lucas Williams got Drew Quinones to ground in to a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning. Lindenwood put together a possible game-winning threat in the 10th with back-to-back singles to lead things off. A foul out, ground out and strike out ended that threat, however, and the game moved in to the 11th.

Derek Cornell led off the inning with a double and went to third on a groundout. He later scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the inning for the go-ahead run.

Grant Gavin came on in the bottom of the 11th and pitched around a one-out error to earn his third save of the season. Lucas Williams (1-1) tossed four innings of two-hit relief with four strikeouts to earn the win. Austin Southmayd allowed one run in 3.1 innings of relief, whie Muehlberger tossed two-thirds of an inning and Gavin tossed a scoreless frame.

Jevon Boyd (1-2) took the loss for Lindenwood allowing one run on one hit in 2.2 innings of relief. Starter Connor Law went 8.1 innings allowing three runs, one earned, on six hits.

The Mules return home on Thursday to open a three-game set with Northwest Missouri. Game time on Thursday is set for 4 p.m. at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field. All three games in the series can be heard on 1450 KOKO and warrensburgradio.com with Bob Jackson and Ricky Rivera on the call.
