Mules' season comes to an end with first round loss in MIAA Tournament

EDMOND, Okla. (March 1, 2016) -- Mules Basketball saw their season come to an end with a 94-74 loss to Central Oklahoma on Tuesday night in the opening round of the MIAA Tournament. UCM ends the season at 14-15 overall.

The Bronchos (16-13) hit a three-pointer on their opening possession and never trailed in the game. They opened up a nine point lead out of the gate and the Mules couldn't recover. A three from Josh Holliday and six straight points from Jordan London pushed the UCO lead to 18 at 27-9 not even eight minutes in to the game.

The lead grew to 21 before a Brad Woodson three-pointer made it 32-14 with 9:08 to play in the half. UCM made a small run on three from Jakob Lowrance and another from Isiah Sykes to get within 15 at trh 5:46 mark, but UCO closed the half on a 14-3 run to lead 54-28 at halftime.

The Bronchos pushed the lead to 30 in the opening five minutes of the second half. Their hot-shooting continued throughout the game as they led by as mnay as 34 at 72-38 with 13:30 to go in the game.

The Mules were also shooting it well, but couldn't gain much traction. They got back to within 18 late, but it was just too much UCO on the night.

Brad woodson led four Mules in double figures with a season-high 15 points. D'Marnier Cunningham and Spencer Reaves had 13 points apiece and Lowrance added 12. The Mules shot 58 percent (25-43) from the field and made a season-high 14 three-pointers, but they struggled at the foul line, making just 10-of-22 for 45 percent.

UCO shot 59 percent (31-53) from the floor and made 16-of-29 three-point attempts for 55 percent. The Bronchos were 16-of-19 at the charity stripe for 84 percent. Jarred Bairstow led four UCO players in double figures with 24 points. Holliday had 21, while Seth Heckart finished with 16 and London chipped in 13.

The Bronchos out-rebounded the Mules 29-18, outscored them 22-14 in the paint and 29-21 in points off turnovers. The Mules had 17 assists and 17 turnovers on the night, while UCO had 17 dimes and 15 giveaways.
