ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Central Missouri Softball picked up a win at the Kelly Laas Memorial Tournament Friday afternoon. The Jennies defeated the host St. Cloud State 3-0 behind freshman
Jordan Johnson's complete game shutout.
Johnson threw seven innings for the Jennies scattering six hits with a strikeout and no walks. She cruised throwing 82 pitches in her seven innings.
The Jennies gave her some support early on scoring two runs in the top of the first.
Ali Jo Rogers led off the game with an infield single and stole second. She scored the game's first run on
Emily Robinson's single.
Makayla Schoonover pinch ran for Robinson and quickly stole second. She scored on
Alex Leonhart's RBI double to left center.
The Jens added on in the fourth inning when
Katie Giacone started things with a double to right center. She later scored on Roger's RBI groundout.
The Huskies had chances late in the game. SCSU left two stranded in the fourth and Johnson left a runner at third in the fifth. The Huskies got the leadoff hitter on base in the sixth and seventh innings, but Johnson was up to task, and preserved her shutout.
At the dish, Robinson collected three hits and drew a walk. The Jens scattered seven hits with Leonhart and Giacone knocking a double each. Rogers finished 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI and stole her 15th base of the season.
For the Huskies, Rebecca Harps reached base three times with two singles and a double. Jessica Goerger also doubled for SCSU.
St. Cloud use three pitchers to get through seven innings. Kate Kopeck got the start pitching the first two innings. She allowed two runs on four hits with a walk and a strikeout. Senna Francesconi was the most effective pitcher for SCSU pitching three innings of two-hit ball with two strikeouts.
The Jennies play their final two games at the Kelly Laas Tournament tomorrow afternoon. Their first game will be a rematch of the 2015 Super Regional series against Augustana (S.D) at 12 p.m. They then face Southwest Minnesota State at 2:30 p.m.
