No. 3 Jennies Soccer advances to Central Region Championship for third straight year

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Nov. 13, 2016)-- The third-ranked Central Missouri Jennies soccer team (20-1, 10-1 MIAA) advanced to the Central Region Championship for the third straight year after defeating the Central Oklahoma Bronchos, 2-1, Sunday afternoon out at South Recreation Complex. This will be the fifth appearance for the Jennies in the Central Region Championship.

Senior Hannah Pyle and redshirt sophomore Jada Scott scored in the Jennies win. In net, Ana Dilkes grabbed five saves in the 12 shots she faced, as she picked up her 20th win of the season.

The Jennies got out in front in the first 10 minutes of play when Pyle scored in the eighth minute. She took a pass from Scott on the right side of the field, went down the sideline to the right end of the box and sailed her shot into the high left end of the net out of the goalkeeper's reach.

Pyle's goal is her 10th of the season and the 34th of her career, which moves her into fifth all-time in program history. She passed Becky Lackey (2010-13) who has 33. Her career point total also bumps to 88 which moves her into a tie for second all-time in program history with Teleshia Jospeh ( 2001-03).

Scott's assist is the 13th of her career which is the ninth most in program history. She entered the weekend tied with four other players.

Both teams battled for the next 27 minutes. The Jennies took six shots, while the Bronchos took five, but the fifth shot got the Bronchos back in the game.

In the 35th minute, Courtney Essary lined up a shot from 40 yards out after a foul from Central Missouri. She hit her shot from the left side and it got past everyone into the left side of the net to tie the game at 1-1.

With less than 10 minutes remaining, the Bronchos fouled the Jennies inside the box in the 37th minute giving Scott the opportunity at a penalty kick. Scott lined up her shot and sent it into the left corner before the goalkeeper reached it.

Scott's goal is her 16th of the season, tying her for second most in a single season in program history. She tied Molly McCain who also scored 16 goals in 1997.

Defensively, the Jennies allowed six shots in the second half for a total of 12, while giving up just their second goal at home all year. The Jennies finish with a final home record of 12-0, which is the best record in program history at Jennies Field.

Offensively, the Jennies outshot the Bronchos 18-12 for the game, but the Bronchos finished with one more shot on goal with six compared to the Jennies five.

The Jennies will travel to Allendale, Mich. to face another MIAA foe in Fort Hays State for the Central Region Championship.  The Tigers finished in a tie with Minnesota State-Mankato, 2-2, but advanced on penalty kicks 4-2.
