WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Oct. 8, 2016) - Jennies Volleyball suffered their second loss of the weekend, this time at the hands of No. 18 Northwest Missouri 3-0 (20-25, 21-25, 18-25). The loss is the Jennies fourth in five games and moves them to 13-6 and 3-4 in the MIAA.
Central Missouri struggled against the Bearcat defense, hitting just .109 for the match, and NWMSUÂ averaged more than 18 digs per set.
Cheyanne Lyons led UCM with eight kills.
Molly Lawrence added seven,
Maddie Jones six, and in her first collegiate action,
Gabby Johnson landed five kills on 11 attempts.Â
Tyler Downs finished with a team-best 28 assists and
Kylie Hohlen collected 17 digs.
Abby Skrastins dug out a career-best 14 attacks.
Northwest quickly scored the first three points of the match and built an eight point lead, 12-4. The Jens fought back with a 5-0 run to cut the lead to three, getting help from three Bearcat attack errors. A Lawrence kill kept the Jennies within three, 21-18, but Northwest got two kills from Maddy Bruder to end to set at 25-20.
Central Missouri took their first lead of the match in set number two, 3-2, and held it for a portion of the early going. Kills from Bruder and Miranda Foster gave NWMSU the lead back, 9-8, which they held onto for the remainder of the set. Although the Bearcats never led by more than five points in the set, UCM shot themselves in the foot committing nine attack errors and three service errors in the set, including a serve error to end the frame.
The Bearcats again never trailed for the entirely of the third set. With the set tied 1-1, NWMSU rattled off six straight points to take a 7-1 lead the Jennies couldn't recover from. Central Missouri fought back, and a 12-8 stretch got UCM back to within two, 15-13. From there though, the Bearcats outscored UCM 10-5 and put away the set and the match 25-18.
For the Bearcats, Bruder led all scorers with 18 kills. Sarah Dannettell had 31 assists and eight digs and Olivia Nowakowski finished with a game-high 20 digs. The Bearcats hit .239 for the match and out-blocked UCM 7-2.Â
Central Missouri continues on the road next week as they take on Missouri Southern and Southwest Baptist, Friday-Saturday, Oct. 14-15.Â
