WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Oct. 4, 2016) - Eleventh-ranked Central Missouri Jennies Volleyball snapped a brief two-game skid in grand fashion, with a 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-16, 25-17) of Lindenwood Tuesday night in Warrensburg. The win is the programs 1,399th all-time bringing them within a game of 1,400.
The Jennies offense was rocking from the get-go, hitting .301 for the match.
Mackenzie Harding and
Molly Lawrence each landed 12 kills and had at least a .455 attack percentage.
Maddie Jones also chipped in with eight kills on only 12 attempts. In the middle, setter
Tyler Downs set a new career-best with 37 assists. She also picked up five digs, three kills and her first two career blocks.Â
Defensively the Jens held yet another opponent under a .100 hitting percentage with the Lions only hitting .076 for the match. It is the fifth time this season an opponent has failed to hit .100 against the Jennies.
Katie Carlson led the defensive showcase with 16 digs while
Kylie Hohlen added 12.
Central Missouri got out real strong scoring eight of the first 10 points. UCM pushed their lead to double-digits, 20-10, before a mini Lion rally.
Kylie Hohlen put the finishing touches on the set with a kill, giving UCM a 1-0 lead. Seven of Carlson's 16 digs came in the set as UCM lead throughout.
Set two started with a kill from Lawrence as the Jennies again jumped out to a big lead, this time 7-3. A 6-0 run pushed that to 13-3 and the Jennies never looked back, again leading wire-to-wire, and ending the frame on four straight kills, two from Lyons and one each from Lawrence and Harding. UCM hit .333 for the set and knocked back three blocks.
Lindenwood kept things close in the third set, trailing only by two, 16-14, just past the midpoint. The Lions only scored three more points in the set though, and UCM closed things out scoring nine of the final 12. Harding and Lawrence each had five kills in the frame.
For Lindenwood, Alex Bogusz tallied nine kills and found success against the Jennies defense hitting .438. Kali Crawford handed out a team-best 12 assists and Megan Hellwege corralled 15 digs.
Central Missouri still has two matches remaining this week. They'll travel to St. Joseph, Mo. to take on Missouri Western Friday, Oct. 7. They then return home for yet another top-25 battle, this time against No. 18 Northwest Missouri Saturday, Oct. 8.Â
