Jennies Roll Past SBU with 3-0 Sweep in Bolivar

BOLIVAR, Mo. (Oct. 15, 2016) – One day after securing their 1,400th program win, 16th-ranked Central Missouri started their climb towards 1,500 with a 3-0 sweep of Southwest Baptist (25-15, 25-10, 25-18). The win moves the Jennies back over .500 in the MIAA at 5-4 and puts them at 15-6 overall.

The Jens hit exactly .300 for the game with 40 kills to only 10 errors while holding the Bearcats to a .000 attack percentage. They also landed seven service aces with Tyler Downs recording three.

Molly Lawrence was the only Jennie with double-digit kills, putting down 12, four in each set. Maddie Jones added nine while Kasey and Kylie Hohlen picked up seven. Downs handed out 35 assists and Carly Offerdahl, starting at libero, had a career-best 22 digs.

The Jennies easily took the first set, 25-15. After building an 8-2 lead and forcing a Bearcat timeout, SBU made a rally scoring five straight points getting to within four, 13-9, but a kill from Kylie Hohlen ended the spurt and sent the Jennies on their way to a 1-0 lead in the match. The final four Jennies points all came from Bearcat miscues.

Set two was all Central Missouri. They scored nine of the first 10 points and opened up a 10-1 lead, cruising to a 25-10 set win. For the second straight set, Jones and Lawrence put down four kills each.

The Bearcats didn't go down without a fight in set three. SBU took an early 8-5 lead after scoring four straight points. The Jennies came back though to reclaim a 10-9 lead. Up by just one, 15-14, Central Missouri scored eight straight, the last four on SBU attack errors, to take their largest lead, 23-14. The Jens closed out the set with Gabby Johnson's lone kill of the match.

For the Bearcats, Katie Robinson led with eight kills. Serena Mar picked up 16 assists, six digs and two kills and Baumann notched 15 digs.

The Jennies return home next week for a pair of rematches with Fort Hays State and Nebraska-Kearney, Friday-Saturday, Oct. 21-22.
