WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The No. 13 Central Missouri Jennies volleyball team got off on the right foot with a straight set win over Western State (25-18, 25-14, 25-12) in the opening game of the Peggy Martin Challenge

Carly Sojka tied a school record with eight service aces. Sophomore
Kasey Hohlen led the offense with 13 kills while Sojka added seven. Junior
Kourtney Thompson chipped in with five kills and 25 assists.
The Jennies jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead in the opening set and never looked back, as they cruised to a 25-18 win. Western State got to within four at 20-16, but a pair of kills from senior
Shelby Winkelmann and one from Thompson put the match away.
Just like the opening frame, the Jens separated themselves early, taking eight of the first 10 points. UCM didn't let up, winning the second set 25-12. Junior
Maddie Jones took the clinching point with service ace. Hohlen put down seven kills in the set.
The Mountaineers scored back-to-back points in the third set to cut a Jennies lead to 7-4. That was as close as they came though, as UCM went on 9-0 run to put the set away. Western State scored three straight points late in the set, but a service error clinched the win for the Jennies. UCM had a balanced attack in the third set with nine players recording a kill.
As a team, the Jennies hit .393 for the match (42 kills, nine errors, 84 attempts). They received 23 points on serves recording 12 aces and were the
beneficiaries of 11 Mountaineer service errors.
UCM takes the court for two more matches tomorrow as they continue the Peggy Martin Challenge. The Jens will take on St. Cloud State at 1 p.m. and Truman State at 4 p.m. Day two of the Peggy Martin Challenge gets under way at 12 p.m. with Western State taking on Illinois-Springfield.
