Jennies pitcher
Katie Shockley was the victor in the pitching duel with Reddies starter Michelle Sorensen. Shockley improves to 24-6 on the season, most wins in a season since Mandee Berg in 1994. She is also one win away from the UCM single season record.
UCM held a 1-0 lead through most of the contest. The Jens grabbed the early lead in the second, turning a Reddies miscue into a run.
The scored remained that way through five and half innings, when the Jennies broke through for three more, giving them a 4-0 lead in the sixth.
Lindsey Dawson drove home two with a single and
Lauren Mabe and
Alex Leonhart connected for back-to-back doubles for the third run of the inning.
UCM needed the insurance as Henderson State scored twice in top of the seventh. A double and a two-out single brought the deficit to two, but with the bases loaded, Shockley ended the game with a strikeout to preserve the win.
Shockley threw all seven innings allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits while striking out six.
The Jennies scattered seven hits, two from Mabe who also scored a run.
Makayla Schoonover was 2-for-2 with two singles and a stolen base. Dawson finished 1-for-3 with two RBI.
With the win, the Jennies will play Sunday in the regional semifinals, where they'll again face Henderson State. UCM needs one more win to advance to the Regional Championship where they'll face the winner of the other half of the Central Region bracket, either No. 1 seed Augustana (S.D.) or No. 8 East Central.
