Mules rout Lincoln for fourth straight win

WARRENSBURG, Mo. --
The Mules pounded out 24 hits and scored 27 runs as they routed Lincoln 27-4 en route to their fourth straight win. The 27 runs are the most since the Mules scored a school-record 32 runs in a win over Washburn during the 2004 season.

The Blue Tigers (1-28, 1-18 MIAA) got on the board with two runs in the third on a Dillon Walker sacrifice fly and a Kaleb Davis RBI single.

The Mules (18-14, 14-9 MIAA) came right back with 10 runs in the bottom of the inning to break the game open. Derek Cornell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and and Bennett Oliver walked with the bags packed to tie the game. Jackson Schnurbusch cleared the bases with a triple and UCM led 5-2. Colin Frederick had an RBI single, while Matt Milner and Dusty Maas each added a two-run single in the frame.

UCM scored three more times in the fourth to make it 13-2. Schnurbusch scored on a throwing error and Trevor Jones had a two-run single for the Mules. The Blue Tigers plated a couple of unearned runs in the fifth to pull within 13-4.

The Mules plated four more runs in the fifth. Billy Maloney had an RBI single and Jones added a two-run triple to make it 16-4 and Miles Orscheln added an RBI double and the Mules led 17-4.

UCM again plated double digit runs in the sixth, scoring 10 times to take a 27-4 lead. Victor Brancato and B. Oliver went back-to-back to leadoff the inning, it was Brancato's first career home run. Jones added an RBI single and Orscheln doubled home two more. Trevor Ezell got in on the action with an RBI single and Frederick added his second RBI single of the game. Nico Codemo had a two-run single for the first runs batted in of his career to finish off the scoring.

Jones finished the day 4-for-5 with five RBI and three runs scored. Eight different Mules had at least two hits and eight had at least two RBI. In total, 13 Mules had hits in the game and 12 drove in at least one run.

Jake Heissler (3-1) earned the win on the mound for UCM after tossing five innings and allowing four runs, only two earned, on five hits. He walked one and struck out six.

Tyler Roberts (0-4) took the loss for Lincoln after giving up six runs on four hits in 2.1 innings of work.
