Jennies Crush Four Home Runs in Sweep of Lincoln

WARRENSBURG, Mo.
- Central Missouri softball continued it's outstanding MIAA play this season with a sweep of Lincoln (3-45, 2-20 MIAA) 8-4 and 9-1 (5 inn.). The wins move the Jennies closer to 40 for the season as they improve their record to 37-13 overall and 19-5 in the MIAA.

The Jennies got strong starting pitching from Katie Shockley and Jessica Wilkes. For Shockley, it was her 17th win of the season and 13th in a row. Wilkes, starting for the first time since April 10, threw a complete game, allowing just one earned run and striking out eight.

Game One - UCM 8, LU 4

The Jennies scored the first two of the afternoon with a pair in the second inning, scoing on a wild pitch and an Ali Jo Rogers sacrifice fly.

The score remained that way until the fifth when the Blue Tigers cut the lead in half on an RBI single.

The Jennies answered in the bottom of the frame scoring five runs, three via the home run. Lauren Mabe launched the home run barrage with an opposite field shot to left center, her seventh of the year. Two batter later, Carlie Rose crushed one deep to center for her fourth of the season. Katie Giacone then blasted a two-run shot, her fifth of the season to put the Jennies up 6-1. Lindsey Dawson capped the inning with a run scoring single.

The Blue Tigers threatened in the seventh against relief pitcher Allison Tonyan, making just her second appearance of the season. Lincoln score three in the cutting, but Tonyan closed the door to hold on to the 8-4 win.

Shockley went the first innings and allowed just one earned run on six hits. She struck out seven batter and didnt issue any free passes.

UCM knocked 15 hits with all nine starters getting in on the action. Mabe finished 3-for-4 with the HR, RBI and two runs scored. Dawson, Rose, Giacone and Madison Hood all picked up two hits each.

Game Two - UCM 9, LU 1

After Wilkes struck out the side in the first, UCM gave her a three-run cushion to work with. The Jennies scored on RBIs from Mabe and Alex Leonhart on their way to a 3-0 lead.

The Jennies extended that lead to 5-0 in the second when Allie Dishinger connected for her fourth home run of the season.

Lincoln got on the scoreboard in the fifth with a solo home run from Madison Gooden.

UCM then scored three in the fifth inning, getting an RBI single from Giacone and scoring two more on wild pitches, to end the game after five innings, 9-1.

Wilkes allowed three hits in her five innings of work and one run while striking out a season-high eight batters.

UCM again collected double-digit hits, sprinkling 10 in the game. Rogers went 2-for-3 and swiped two bags, bringing her total to 35 on the season. Giacone also finished 2-for-3. Her and Dishinger led the game with two RBI each.

The Jennies regular season concludes with senior day, Saturday April 25 against Lindenwood. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. with an on-field ceremony recognizing the Jennies four seniors between games.
