ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Jennies offense was on full display in two games at the Missouri Western Regional Crossover. UCM scored a combined 22 runs on 26 hits in two games, cruising to a pair of wins and upping their record to 18-7. This is the latest into a season the Jennies have been 10 or more games over .500 since 2009.
Game One: UCM 14, Upper Iowa 4 – 5 inn.The Jennies came out swinging in their first game Saturday afternoon against Upper Iowa. UCM scored in the first four innings and never trailed on their way to a 14-4 win in five innings.
Jakki Prater got the offensive surge going, hitting a solo home run, her third of the season in the first. That was just the beginning as the Jens then scored six in the second, pushing their lead to 7-1.
Carlie Rose crushed a three-run homer to center to break a 1-1 tie in the second. The Jennies continued to pour it on in the inning, Prater picked up her second RBI with a double and
Lauren Mabe drove one home with a single.
UCM scored seven more runs in the third and fourth innings, as they run-ruled the Peacocks, ending the game after five innings.
The Jennies knocked a season-best 18 hits, getting three apiece from Prater, Rogers and
Alex Leonhart. Rose finished 2-for-3 with a team-high five RBI, Prater and Rose both had three RBI each.
Jessica Wilkes picked up the win in the circle, her fifth of the season. She allowed four runs, three earned in five innings, striking out three and surrendering nine hits.
Game Two: UCM 8, Northern State 0Katie Shockley hurled a three-hit shutout and the Jennies offense continued to roll, putting up eight runs in an 8-0 win over Northern State.
The game was scoreless through two, but
Lindsey Dawson changed that with an RBI single to score
Makayla Schoonover.
UCM unloaded for four runs in the fifth, bringing their lead to 5-0. Four straight batters drove in runs for the Jens as all nine batters took a turn in the box in the inning.
That was more than enough for Shockley who dominated the Wolves. In seven innings of work, she allowed three hits and struck out four batters.
The Jens added on three more runs in the sixth and seventh, bringing the total to eight in the ball game.
Six different Jennies earned an RBI. Dawson was the only one to finish with two. Rose led the team with three hits in four at bats. She had an RBI and also scored a run.
Amanda Nally and Schoonover each picked up a pair of hits and scored two runs. Schoonover also swiped two bases.
The Jennies wrap up the Missouri Western Regional Crossover tomorrow. They'll go head-to-head with Minnesota St. Mankato at 11 a.m.
