Jennies Take Florida Opener in 10 Innings

CLERMONT, Fla. - The first of the Jennies' eight games in Florida went a little long, but it was worth it as they came away with a 5-3 win in 10 innings over Minot State. For the Jens, it's their fifth win in a row as they improve to 9-5 on the sesaon.

The Beavers got on the board first, scoring two runs in the opening frame on a pair of RBI singles.

The score remained 2-0 after five innings as the pitchers were in complete control.

UCM's bats finally woke up in the sixth when Lauren Mabe laced a triple to being home Jakki Prater, cutting the lead to 2-1. Allie Dishinger then followed that with a single, plating Mabe to even up the score 2-2.

Neither team could score in the seventh, and for the fourth time this season, the Jennies were headed to extra innings.

Per tournament rules, a runner is placed on second-base starting in the eighth inning. The Jennies threatened in the eighth with runners on the corners and nobody out, but MSU escaped the jam unharmed.

After Prater set the Beavers down in order to end the eighth, the Jens finally broke through for a run in the ninth, taking the lead on Amanda Nally's single to left, scoring Madison Hood.

The lead was short-lived as the Beavers tied the game right back up with a one-out RBI single. MSU had the bases loaded with two outs, but Prater coaxed a fly ball to center to end the threat.

With one out and a runner on third in the top of the 10th, Mabe connected for her second triple of the afternoon, as the Jens reclaimed the lead, 4-3. Two batters later, Katie Giacone singled home Mabe for an insurance run, and the Jennies had their biggest lead of the day heading to the bottom of the ninth.

Prater set the Beavers down 1-2-3 as UCM completed the comeback win to snap the Beaver's eight-game winning streak.

Prater matched a career-high with 10 IP for the complete game win. She allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits and struck out seven, improving to 5-2 on the season

Mabe finished the game with three hits, two runs, two RBI and two triples. Dawson, Dishinger, Giacone and Nally each had a pair of hits; Dishinger, Giacone and Nally also had an RBI apiece.

Mindy Lorimor matched Prater with a 10 inning complete game. She allowed five runs (three earned) on 11 and struck out six batters. Jordan Grant led the Beaver offense with three hits, a run scored and a stolen base.

The Jennies have another game tonight with Urbana University. They'll play two more tomorrow afternoon and another two on Sunday to finish the tournament. They'll then have a road doubleheader with No. 15 Rollins in Winter Park, Fla.
