Central Missouri tops Newman in final dual of season

Wichita, Kan.-- Central Missouri (5-12, 1-4 MIAA) will finish the regular season on a high note with a 36-17 win over Newman (2-10, 0-5 MIAA). Evan Young (157), Schneider (197), and Goodman (285) all had falls in the dual.

Both the Mules and the Jets forfeited two weight classes a piece, making the score 12-12 going into the first match of the night. Young took another six points for the Mules with a first period pin against Forlanda Parker at 2:21. Josh Thomson (165) and Archie Williams (174) followed with back-to-back decision wins, to bring the score to 24-12. The Mules were beat in the 184-pound bout, but did not lose another match in the dual. Schneider had a pin over Bobby Bowman at 3:09 in the second to last round, the Jets were also deducted a team point during the match, making the score 30-17. Goodman finished the meet with another first period pin at 2:37 against Lex Plummer. 

After the dual, Young will have an overall record of 13-8, with a 7-3 dual record, and 31 team points earned. Thomson will still lead the Mules in wins, at 25-9 overall. He will also finish the season with the most dual wins (10). Williams record will improve to 19-10, and 9-6 in duals, with 37 team points. Schneider is now 12-14, and 3-4 in duals, with nine wins by fall. Finally, Goodman is up to 9-5 overall, and 2-3 in duals. 

Central Missouri will host the MIAA Championships Sunday, in Warrensburg, Mo. The conference tournament will begin at 9 a.m. in the UCM Multipurpose Building.
