Season StatsSPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Central Missouri Jennies Basketball (1-3) held a nine point lead after the first period, from there it was all Panthers, as the Jennies fell to No. 8 Drury 86-71. Drury scored 35 points in the second period to take the lead and didn't look back en route to the 15-point win.
For the second straight game, senior
Shelby Winkelmann led the Jennies in scoring with 23 points. She was 7-of-10 from the floor and 7-of-8 at the free throw line. She also grabbed two boards and had two assists.
Ashley Duffy also scored 10 points, her most in a Jennies uniform and
Ashley Jones grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
The Panthers shooting was the story of the game. They shot better than 50% from the floor and from three. Drury connected on 56% of their attempts (31-of-55) and 55% from three (12-of-22).
UCM built a 12-point lead, 20-8 late in the first period. The lead quickly evaporated aided by the help of a half-court shot at the end of the first period. The Panthers wasted no time and tied the game 22-22 at the 7:34 mark of the second stanza. The Panthers continued to score, putting up 35 in the period, the most UCM has allowed in a period all season. Drury did a complete turnaround, taking a 12 point lead of their own before going into halftime up 11, 46-35.
The Jennies weren't able to sustain any momentum in the second half, getting no closer than within eight at the 6:13 mark on a layup from Duffy. The two teams traded baskets for the most part in the fourth quarter and the Panthers were able to hold off UCM with a 15-point win, 86-71.
The Panthers had three in double-figures, led by Brook Duncan with 20 points. Annie Armstrong was a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the arc and scored 17 points and Heather Harmon scored 13. Duncan also secured a team-best seven rebounds.
The Jennies have one more non-conference game left. That will be Saturday, Nov. 28 at Quincy. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
