Photo GalleryEDMOND, Okla. – UCM Volleyball moves into the MIAA Championship after sweeping Nebraska-Kearney three sets to none (25-17, 25-19, 32-30).
Carly Sojka led the Jennies offense with 15 kills.
Cheyanne Lyons chipped in with 10 while
Kylie Hohlen added eight.
Kourtney Thompson paced the team with 29 assists and
Annie Reilly led the back row with 22 digs.
UCM got 10 blocks in the game, five from
Kasey Hohlen and three apiece from Sojka and
Maddie Jones.
The Jennies came out strong in the opening frame.
Carly Sojka landed four kills and had a service ace in the set. The Jens were aided by 10 Loper attack errors. After going up 9-5, UNK called an early timeout to try to settle the storm. UCM just widened the gap from there, going up by as many as eight, 23-15 and eventually taking the set, 25-17.
UCM kept that momentum going in the second set as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the match. The Jens never trailed in the set as they went on a 13-6 run after starting out with a 2-2 tie. The Lopers got as close as four on a number of occasions, but UCM put the set away with kills from Sojka and
Kasey Hohlen.
A thrilling third set is where the Jennies sealed the match. The two-teams went back-and-forth to the tune of 19 ties and four lead changes. Neither team had more than a two-point lead at any point in the set. The Jennies led late, 20-18, but the Lopers were able to come back and take a 23-22 lead of their own. The teams continued to trade points, going well beyond 25 points. UNK scored the first three advantage points, but UCM was able to come back each time. In the end, Central Missouri outlasted the Lopers, scoring the last two points on UNK Lopers for a 32-30 win.
The Jennies now advance to the MIAA final round against No. 1 seed and host Central Oklahoma. UCM and UCO split in their two matches during the regular season. The Bronchos defeated No. 4 Washburn 3-1. First set is set for 3 p.m.
