Late goal leads Jennies Soccer to second-straight Central Region Championship

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The Jennies Soccer team won their second consecutive Central Region Championship with a 1-0 win over Minnesota State-Mankato Friday afternoon at Jennies Field.

The Jens had the first shot of the day when Jada Scott tried to give the Jens an early lead in the third minute, but a save from the Mavericks' goalkeeper kept the game scoreless. Minnesota State-Mankato didn't record a shot until the 36th minute, but the shot went wide of the goal.

The two teams exchanged shots, but the game remained scoreless until the final minutes of the match.

Baylie Edwards broke the tie in the 88th minute when Hannah Pyle found Edwards in front of the net, who then turned and scored from close range. The goal was her second of the season, and Pyle's assist was her team leading seventh of the season.

The Jennies doubled up the Mavericks in shots 14-7.

Ana Dilkes played all 90 minutes in goal for the Jennies and recorded four saves, including two acrobatic saves in the 66th and 86th minute to keep the Mavericks scoreless.

Central Missouri (21-2-0) will host the winner of the Midwest region, Grand Valley State (21-1-0), Sunday at Jennies Field at noon in an NCAA Quarterfinal match.
