Box ScoreWARRENSBURG, Mo. - Central Missouri Jennies basketball treated their fans to a season-opening look as UCM took on Missouri Valley in an exhibition game. The Jennies came out on top 99-51 as four players scored in double-figures and
Danielle Barry recorded a double-double.
The Jennies shot 37% from the floor while holding the Vikings to just a 29% field goal percentage. UCM did a lot of damage from the free throw line, netting 31-of-42 from the charity stripe.
Shelby Winkelmann (6-of-8) and
Cierra Gaines (6-of-9) were the biggest beneficiaries at the free throw line.
Winkelmann led the Jens scoring 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Gaines followed her with 15 points while
Paige Redmond and Barry chipped in with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Barry also pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for a double-double.
The new rules call for four 10-minute periods as opposed to two 20-minute halves. After the first period the Jens held a slim 19-15 edge. UCM turned it on in the second period, outscoring the Vikings 36-17 to take a 55-32 lead into the break.
UCM remained in control in the second-half of the action, limiting MVC to just 19 second-half points.
The Jens were dominant in the paint, scoring 48 of their 99 points on the inside. UCM also held a 33-5 edge in points off turnovers and outscored the Vikings 12-0 in fast-break points.
The games start to count towards the standings next weekend, Nov. 13-15 as UCM when the Jennies travel to Las Vegas for the D2 Vegas Showdown where they'll take on Northwest Nazarene and Minnesota St. Moorhead.
