Annie Reilly reached a huge milestone in the No. 13 Jennies 3-0 win over Fort Hays State. Late in the second set, Reilly landed her first ace of the match and the 200th of her UCM career. That number has only been reached twice prior. Reilly also served two more aces in the third set, giving her 202 and moving her to second all-time in UCM history.
UCM hit .379 for the match to win their second straight MIAA game. The .379 attack percentage is the highest since the Jens hit .400 against the University of Mary during the Peggy Martin Challenge.
Maddie Jones was the top offensive weapon for UCM. She smashed a match-high 16 kills on 24 attempts with no errors for a .667 attack percentage, the highest of her career.
Carly Sojka picked up her seventh double-double of the season with a 14-kill, 17-dig performance. Once again it was
Kourtney Thompson facilitating the offense. She passed out 32 assists and also picked up four kills.
Reilly also led the Jennies defense with a match-high 18 digs and chipped in with six assists.
UCM came out on fire in the first set, building an 8-2 lead before running away with the set, 25-14. UCM scored the final five points of the set getting a pair of kills from Jones and taking advantage of three Tiger errors. Jones had six of her 16 kills in the set on only eight attempts.
The Jennies again jumped out to a large lead, this time scoring seven of the first 10 points in the set. The Tigers cut the lead to one on three separate occasions, but couldn't take the lead. UCM used a 9-2 lead to put some distance on Fort Hays. The Tigers rallied with four straight points towards the end of the set, but it was too little, too late as two straight attack errors finished the set for the Jennies, 25-19.
The Jennies kept their foot on the gas in the third set, again getting ahead early, this time 13-4. Fort Hays got no closer than seven points for the rest of the match as the Jennies cruised to a 25-11 set win. Sojka landed five kills in the set including the final two points for UCM.
UCM is right back in action tomorrow evening as they welcome No. 16 Nebraska-Kearney to Warrensburg. First serve is 7 p.m.
