Hays, Kan. -- The Central Missouri wrestling team fell in their second to last dual of the season to No. 6 Fort Hays State on Thursday evening. The Mules lost by eight, with a final score of 23-15.
Malacai Collins (125),
Frank Cagnina (149),
Ty Loethen (174), and
Todd Brier (197) all walked away from the match with wins.
Collins beat No. 8 Adam Ludwin in a sudden victory, earning the Mules their only lead of the dual.
Andrew Robinson (133) and
Eric Mateo (141) lost both of their matches by major decision to give Fort Hays the advantage at 8-4. Cagnina pulled the Mules within two of the Tigers with a 11-5 decision over Noah Killip, but
Brennan Johnson (157) and
Josh Thomson (165) lost the following two matches to put Fort Hays up by nine at 15-6. Loethen won over Josh Rodriguez with a 4-2 decision, before Josh Ploof (184) fell to Jon Inman with a 10-2 major decision. Brier had the only pin of the night, at 3:58 over Chad Rous, but that was the last win of the night for UCM. The dual ended with
Jacob Clark (285) falling to Jack Page in an 8-0 decision.
Collins improves his overall record to 14-8. Cagnina is now 28-2, while Loethen is 14-4 this season with an overall record of 34-13. Brier is 20-12 in his senior season, and has a career record of 66-72.
The Mules will finish out the regular season in Kearney, Neb. on Friday with they take on No. 2 Nebraska-Kearney.
