Central Missouri have four placewinners at the Simpson Invitational on Saturday, including a first place finish by Malacai Collins at 125 pounds. Collins beat did not allow a point in his first match of the day, beating Khalil Williams (William Penn) by major decision at 8-0. He then had a decision win over Garrett Wangsness (Upper Iowa University) and Trevor Murano (Grand View) to advance to the championship match. In the finals he beat Paul Mascarenas (North Iowa) with another decision.
Josh Thomson (165) was fourth at the tournament. He had consecutive falls to start the day, over Jeremy Walters (William Penn) and Blake Hampton (Labette). He then fell in the quarterfinals to Farai Sewera (Coe), in an overtime match. Thomson had two more pins on the back side of the bracket, followed by a decision over Colbey Vance of Upper Iowa to advance to the third place match. In his final match of the evening Sewera again beat Thomson, this time with a 5-2 decision.
Mike Boyd was fifth at 174 pounds. He was beat in his first match by Brett Roberts (Simpson), but had four straight falls on the back side in the consolation bracket. He then fell for the second time to Roberts, which would be his last match of the day, as his final opponent had to forfeit the match.
Logan Cairer won his first three matches of the day, had a medical forfeit in the semifinals, and defaulted to sixth place.
The Mules will compete in the Midwest Classic next weekend.
