The week ahead...
     No. 12 ranked University of Central Missouri Jennies soccer (14-3-2) fell to Central Oklahoma, 3-1 in the opening round of the MIAA Tournament on November 5 in Warrensburg. 
     The Jennies' lone score belonged to Abby Rhodes, her second goal of the season. UCM fell behind, 2-1 at halftime and were unable to overcome the deficit in the game's second half. 
     UCM will square-off with No. 19 Southwest Minnesota State on Friday, Nov. 15 at  1 p.m. at The Pitch on the Minnesota State campus. Southwest Minnesota State enters the game at 14-3-2. The Mustangs went 11-2-2 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference this season. The winner of Friday's match will take on top-seeded Minnesota State (17-2-2) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
     Under head coach Lewis Theobald, the Jennies are 3-3-2 in NCAA Tournament play. This will be UCM's first match against Southwest Minnesota State under Theobald. 
     Nine Jennies were named All-MIAA last week. Carly Stanley was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Year, Cindy Lackey earned MIAA Defensive Player of the Year and Hannah Pyle earned MIAA Freshman of the Year honors. Head Coach Lewis Theobald earned his fourth-consecutive MIAA Coach of the Year honor, and sixth in seven seasons while at UCM. Joining Stanley, Lackey and Pyle on the first team were defender Kristin Bright and midfielder Becky Lackey
     Earning second-team All-MIAA honors were defender Emily Eldridge, midfielder Nicole Pond and forward Julie Ireland. Goakeeper Jessica Grindstaff rounded out the Jennies All-MIAA selections, garnering third-team honors. 

Jennies soccer by the numbers
     The Jennies enter the week ranked 12th in the latest NSCAA Division II National Poll with an overall record of 14-3-2. 
     The Jennies offense is paced by senior Becky Lackey (9 g, 6 a, 24 pts.), sophomore Julie Ireland (10 g,  1 a, 21 pts.), freshman Hannah Pyle (10 g, 20 pts.) and senior Carly Stanley (4 g, 10 a, 18 pts.) As a team the Jennies average 3.15 goals-per-game while holding their opponents to just 0.78 per-game. The Jennies average 17.0 shots-per-game while their opponents only average 8.4 per-game. 
     The Jennies primary goalkeepers are Jessica Grindstaff and Morgan Hartzler. Grindstaff has seen action in 13 matches, saving 29 shots while only allowing seven goals for a goals-against-average of 0.73. Her record in-goal is 8-2-0 with seven shutouts. Hartzler has played in nine matches, saving 22 shots while also only allowing six goals for a GAA of 0.71. Her record between the pipes is 5-1-2 with five shutouts. 
     The Jennies scoring offense ranks fifth in NCAA-II with a 3.16 average. Stanley is tied for 11th in NCAA-II with 10 assists this season. She owns the Jennies all-time assists record with 27 and tied the program's single-season record with 10. 

Series History with the Mustangs...
Southwest Minnesota State: UCM leads the all-time series, 2-0-0. The two teams last played on September, 4, 2005 in Warrensburg, the Jennies coming out on top, 8-2. The first matchup between the two foes occured on September 25, 2004 in Marshall, Minn. with the Jennies coming out victorious, 2-0. 

Series History with the Mavericks...
Minnesota State: The all-time series with the Mavericks sits at 4-4-1. The two teams last played on September, 8, 2013 in Mankato, the Jennies falling, 3-0. 
In NCAA Tourney play, the two foes have met twice, (2007, 2012), tying both times. The 2012 matchup resulted in the two teams playing to a 1-1 draw in double-overtime but the Mavericks prevailed, 5-4 in a shootout in the Central Regional title match. The 2007 matchup saw the game end in a 1-1 tie after double-overtime, with the Minnesota coming out on top, 7-6 in a shootout. 

Southwest Minnesota State's TJ Buchholz 
TJ Buchholz is in his third season as head women's soccer coach at Southwest Minnesota State in 2013 after being named to the position on April 19, 2011. He is the fourth head coach in program history.
Buchholz has turned the Mustang soccer program around and has it heading in the right direction after just two seasons on the sidelines. Under Buchholz's watch, Southwest Minnesota State finished the 2011 season 5-10-1, 4-8-1 in the NSIC and finished the 2012 season with a record of 7-9-1, 5-9-1 in the NSIC – each marking new highs in win totals since the 2004 season. In two seasons, Buchholz has produced five all-conference players including four in 2011. 

Head Coach Lewis Theobald
Five-time MIAA Coach of the Year, Lewis Theobald is in his seventh season as head coach at Central Missouri with a stunning 109-21-15 record, becoming the all-time winningest coach in Jennies soccer history during the 2012 season. He earned his 100th victory as head coach of the UCM program on Friday, September 27 at Washburn. 
     He recorded more wins in his first three seasons than any other coach in school history. He was the first assistant at Division I Indiana State, where he was the lead recruiter before coming to UCM. 
     He is a 1999 graduate of the University of Kansas.

Scouting the Mustangs
The Mustangs lost in the first round of the NSIC Tournament to Upper Iowa, 1-0. The game's only score occured in the seventh minute when Madie Edwards of Upper Iowa scored on a penalty kick. SMSU outshot UIU 21-14, including 10-3 on goal. 
Offensively, sophomore forward Miranda Cadena leads the Mustangs with 11 goals and 28 points. She has added six assists to her 2013 resume as well. Six of her 11 goals have proven to be game-winners. Sophomore forward Kendhal Fisher chipped in with 11 assists, the most among UIU players. 
Defensively, the Mustangs have surrendered 11 goals in 19 games, posting 10 shutouts. Freshman goalkeeper Brienna Dehkes (13-3-2) leads the team with 18 starts, logging 1679:40 minutes and saving 80 shots. Opponents have scored 11 times on Dehkes, who owns a 0.59 GAA.

Scouting the Mavericks 
The Mavericks defeated Upper Iowa, 4-1 in the first round of the NSIC Tournament before falling to Minnesota-Duluth, 3-2 in a shootout. 
Offensively, Korey Kronforst leads the Mavericks with 43 points (18 goals, seven assists). Four of her goals have proven to be game-winners. 
Defensively, Minnesota State has allowed 15 goals in 21 games, shutting out opponents 11 times. Goalkeeper Molly McGough leads the team with 17 starts, posting a 14-2-1 record. She has saved 55 shots and allowed 14 goals for a 0.82 GAA. 
Central Missouri and Minnesota State met earlier this season in Mankato, resulting in a 3-0 victory for the Mavericks.

Jennies defeat Southwest Minnesota State, 8-2
The Jennies downed SW Minnesota State in Warrensburg, 8-2, improving their record to a perfect 3-0. Jamie Lawrence scored the game-winning goal in the ninth minute off a rebound off the crossbar. Carrie Twellman, who recorded a hat-trick,  scored two-consecutive goals in the next 13 minutes to stretch UCM's lead to 3-0. 
The Mustangs got two goals back off the foot of Noelle Bergman, closing the gap to 3-2 in the 48th minute. However the Jennies put the game to rest, scoring five unanswered goals (two from Hazel Cox), to secure the 8-2 win.
