ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The Central Missouri Jennies recorded their fourth consecutive straight set win beating Missouri Western 25-19, 25-23, 25-12 on Friday night at the MWSU Fieldhouse. The Jennie improve to 9-3 overall and 3-0 in MIAA play.
The Jennies jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in set one. The Jens extended the lead to 11-2 before the Griffons (7-5, 1-3 MIAA) rallied to pull within 14-10. The lead was 18-13 when UCM ripped off four straight points on kills by
Lisa Moore and
Julia Bates and a pair of MWSU attack errors. The Griffons got to within 24-19, but
Carly Sojka finished off the set with a kill.
The second set saw the Jennies jump out to another early lead at 12-5. The lead was still six at 17-11, but an 11-6 run by the Griffons pulled them to within 23-22. A ball handling error against MWSU gave the Jens set point and on the second set point Moore finished it off on an assist from Bates.
The third set was a back-and-forth battle early on with neither team leading by more than two. A 6-0 run by the Jens midway through the set opened a 17-9 lead for UCM. The teams traded points to give the Jennies a 20-12 lead on another attack error by Missouri Western. The Jennies added four straight kills and finished off the match on a MWSU attack error.
Bradye Peniston led the Jennies with 13 kills while hitting .379. Bates had 35 assists to go along with eight kills and six digs.
Annie Reilly had a game-high 24 digs.
The Jennies are back in action at home on Saturday night. UCM will host Truman State at 7 p.m. at the UCM Multipurpose Building.
